Nice figure, is it a repaint do you know?

I have thoughts on this.

It could be Picture Pack 292B Gordon Highlanders Officer with field glasses (standing) (I have no picture of this item so cannot say for sure)

or it could be a scratch built figure of a Cameron Highlander Officer body with bearskin head replacement.

Other than that I am not sure as I can't see anything in the reference material I have available. I am sure someone will chime in soon with an answer.

Hi Guys,

Its not the 292B because that officer was in a Sun Helmet. It looks like it is a repaint of the figure who came from set 2063 Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders but those figures were in Sun Helmets as well. All of the sets I can find with this figure type list him as in the Sun Helmet. So this could be a well done conversion with the Feather Bonnet instead of the Sun Helmet head. Not sure but thats what I have found so far.

Great figure, do you have others?

Dave

Hi Airwiggy,
Based upon my limited knowledge (started collecting W. Britains in 1948), I strongly believe you have a very nicely executed conversion of an officer of the Gordon Highlanders, using the body of an Argyll and Sutherland Highlander officer from Set No. 2063, and the head of a charging 42nd Highlander (Black Watch) from Set No. 11. Hope this helps.

I agree with those views too - and offer my (poorly lit) photo of what he might have looked like (with his kneeling chum). Though beware - as my two are also not what they seem. they're re-cast versions of the real thing - obtained as castings and re-painted too.%^V

That's the trouble with these lovely original figures. Lottsa folks want them - and they ain't making the real ones anymore! I do like yours though airwiggy - nice job whoever did him! johnnybach^&grin:salute::

Thanks Guys
This is the only figure I have - inherited it, it was my thought that it was a conversion - but you live in hope that it may have been a ONE OFF ONE OF KIND LOST SET issued in 1938 sort of thing......haha
It is a nice figure. But ever so lonely....will have to look at another makers highlanders to see if i can get him some troops.
Cheers Guys
Dave

H Dave,

Keep an eye open on ebay because they have old Britains Highlanders on there all the time and if you dont care about the damage that comes with age you can usually pick some up for good prices. Then all you need is a good painter to re do them for you and you have a nice little display. If you go look at my photo albums on my member page you can see a photo or two of some old ones i have in a grouping.

Just a thought - if your figure is still lonely - why not ask Giles Brown of Dorset Soldiers if he can supply you with some Britains lookalike castings with the bonnet head - then paint them up yourself. I did this (see below) with the FS head - to accompany my Officer with field glasses (he's behind the cannon). (though there are two Officers with bonnets). You can get half a dozen for less than £20! I did mine as Gordons - but you can do them as any tartan. johnnybach:smile2:

Great Highlanders pic! I too recommend Giles Brown of Dorset Soldies for any new toy soldier castings or conversion-work on any old Britains toy soldiers (replacing different heads/kepis/helmets/bonnets etc.).

For further old Britians & Wm. Hocker Highlanders toy soldiers pics take a look at:

Wmhocker.com under "Dispatches" - Alexander Jordan "The Thin Red Line" in particular.
