Watched The Wooden Horse (1950), The Colditz Story, and The One Who Got Away last night (or parts of due to losing SATCOM due to storms). Three British '50s WWII escape movies. The last depicting the only German POW to make it back to Germany. All very well done, with some original POWs in the cast.

Prompted me to read further and discovered two of the main characters in Colditz later made it back to Britain, only to die later during the war. One as a battalion commander of Kings Rifles and the other while test flying a Typhoon. Franz von Werra, depicted in the third movie, disappeared flying over the North Sea, after his return to Germany. Life doesn't always turn out like a Hollywood film ending.

Excellent movies, even after some sixty yrs.

Caught the first two, fell asleep after that. Good shows. I remember reading "The Wooden Horse" and "The Colditz Story" in high school. Really interesting reads. -- Al
