Many years ago I was a pretty hard-core military modeler and diorama maker. However, at 75 year, my eyes and hand coordination just isn't what it used to be. So these days I restrict myself to already constructed and painted figures and dioramas. This morning, because of my own clumsiness, I accidentally broke half of a musket off one of my ACW metal figures. I tried to reattach it with super glue but with such small surfaces to work with and my old shaky hands, I had no luck.

Can anyone suggest some method that might work for me please.

Thank you,

Brian

Have you thought of using a bit of painters tape to hold one side of the rifle match the two pieces and then use glue? Wrap the tape to hold it then peel if off when dry.
Knowing the forum you will likely get better suggestions but that's what popped into my mind.

Depending on the size of the musket, I sometimes use a very fine drill to drill into the barrel, then pin with fine wire and Supa Glue to hold it.

Using glue alone doesn't give the barrel any lateral strength and any small knock will snap it again.

Another was is fit a new barrel completely using spares because you can fit the new barrel in a similar way bu pinning, but where it joins the figure it is more solid.

Hope that helps,

John

Thanks John. Unfortunately, as I said in the original post, I am incapable of fine motor skill tasks these days.

I think I should be able to manage that and it sounds like it could work Will give it a try and see how it goes. Many thanks.

As suggested already a dowel is the best way. A Dremmel drill with a fine bit and a pin with glue. If you have no one who could assist you Gorilla glue is the best option. Also Tradition of London have spare 54mm muskets unpainted from kits. Good luck.

ATTENTION SPUDEE. Check out The W Britain website New Rorke’s Drift backdrop available. Looks great. Regards

Those 2 are really nice. However, following the suggestion of another forum member, I have used a photo of the SA national park where the movie 'Zulu' was filmed. It turned out very well.
