Does it sell well this African-American cavalry?

Would love to see one of the major gloss manufacturers produce a range of action posed mounted buffalo soldiers/cavalry. Some of the smaller UK makers such as Military Pageant did venture into ths subject area some years ago, but sadly they have all but disappeared now. Although from time to time individual figures do sometimes find their way onto Ebay.

Bill Hocker http://wmhocker.com/ makes 2 sets of glossy Buffalo Soldier Cavalry:

Ted Deddens of Ted Toy makes a series of Buffalo Soldiers in glossy

From Ted's site http://www.tedtoy.com/

Buffalo Soldiers

The African American soldiers who served in the American West were known as Buffalo Soldiers. These buffalo soldiers represent the black troopers of the 9th and 10th cavalry who policed the west during the "Indian Wars" after the Civil War.
This will be an expanding line representing these soldiers who were unparalleled in their service to this country.

I would love to see one of the companies Treefrog carries make Buffalo Soldiers in glossy or matte. I have had requests for them in the past and could not point the collector to any options. I think it's a great subject and with such interesting history behind it.
Regards,

I always thought that the Bufalo Soldiers would be an interesting range with a lot of possibilities. The 9th and 10th Cavalry during the Apache campaign would be especially interesting.

Semper Fi!

Not only the Apache campaigns but how about charging dismounted led by Lt. "Black Jack" Pershing.:D:D:D

Beau Geste would be an excellent choice. Ana already does wonderful sets of black soldiers during World War I. I suggested to Ana that a great addition to this line would be the 369th Hellfighters(15th NY) from Harlem. Not only are they famous for their bravery during the war but through their band led by James Reese Europe they helped spread American jazz music to France.

Here are some links to the 369th:

I just ordered this set and an extra trooper striped as a Sgt. I am a sucker for anything western cavalry..Michael

The add-on Sgt. is a great idea. I look forward to your pictures when you have the set in hand.

For a matte Buffalo soldier series how about TF working with Honour Bound ( the Donzino's other company) as you have done with the Shores of Tripoli?

Great idea, Randy,
I'd be in for those figures.
The "Shores of Tripoli" line came out in a top quality.

I will have the 6 figures in 4 weeks, but he would not stripe my sgt. for what ever reason. I will have to send him and some others out to one of our forum painters to do. I have tried myself, but my eyes will not allow me to do the fine work, anymore..Michael

That's too bad about the stripes. Luckily you have lots of good painters to choose from.

Here is Bill's statement on custom orders:

Companion sets (eg: 5 troopers instead of the typical 4 troopers and officer) or additional matching figures for any set already ordered may be special ordered. The cost is $22 per infantry figure and $35 per cavalry figure. Include an existing figure when ordering if exact paint matching is necessary. No other requests for special orders can be entertained.

Castings, individual guns and individual figures are not for sale.

Randy,
Yikes! This whole 'exclusive line' thing is pretty new for me and it is quite involved when you are not just ordering a special painting of an existing figure or vehicle but are actually ordering 'from the sculpt up' figures...and lots of them!
I will be watching sales and support of the Tripoli line to gauge if having a special line produced for us is a good fit for Treefrog. Not quite ready to order up another completely new line on top of Tripoli yet (and we have plans in the works for a follow up to Tripoli already) but I really like the idea of Buffalo Soldiers so if Tripoli is a hit I will definitely keep the idea in my back pocket. :)
Regards,
