Hey folks ! don't know if this is the proper venue but seems there are lots of like minded people out there who might be able to share their knowledge. I'm looking for a replacement for a Build-a-Rama BAR177 1/32 cobblestone road piece which they unfortunately don't make any more. I would very much like to complete a small project that I have had on the go for some time. Any suggestions appreciated

Not sure if it is a mat you are after but if so I can't say enough good things about this mat from Kancali in the US, easy to paint and great to use

Welcome to the forum!

Best

JG Miniatures also still makes a great cobble road. Cheers, Robin.

I agree with Rob, Kancali does make good cobblestone or brickwork/paver roads. The good thing about their products is they are cheap, realistic, easy to paint and you can cut them to any shape you want as they are made out of latex (see my dio pic). If you want to check them out here's the link:

You mentioned "easy to paint" - are we able to just use them out of the box without painting ?

Thanks for the link

Yes, you can if you like and i think Rob didn't paint his (see his dio pic below) and his pavers look good. When i say paint, you don't need to paint the pavers entirely, just weather them (dry brushing) to bring out the detail on the top of the pavers. I have attached another pic so you can see how i weathered mine but if you want to go all out with the detail, then the pavers will need to be repainted so you get the soil between the pavers and then the tops of the pavers painted in several different colours followed by the weathering of the pavers. It's up to you and leaving them unpainted still looks good although i found it best to glue them down onto a board or something as they are latex and will not lie flat and they are also shipped all rolled up. I used PVA glue and then put heavy items on top while it was drying to flatten the pavers onto my dio board. Kancali sends painting information tips with the products to give you some ideas.

Phew! i think i should get a commission from Kancali after writing all of this...:rolleyes2:^&grin

Excellent pic Tom{bravo}}

I did paint mine, I gave them a grey undercoat, then a couple of dirty washes and then as Tom says I just pick out the edges with an off white to give it the weathered look. But as he says you really don't have to do all that if you don't want to and can just weather them, they are such a good mat its all you have to do.

Cheers

Thanks Rob and you did a good job on the painting and weathering of your road pavers.
