Here is the progress of the built-in display case. I am going to try to put in ten glass shelves but I think I won't have enough room so I will still keep my old display cabinet.

I still need:
Lighting - need to pick the best source
Staining - need to choose a color
Mirrors - will be placing an order soon
Glass shelves - will be placing an order soon
Glass doors - the diorama area will have a sliding door and the shelves will have opeing doors
Finish touches - need a bit more trim work and hardware

Alex,

Your display area will be very, very nice. I wish I had something like that. However, I can tell you one thing for sure. You may take the word "books" out of that area marked "Books or more toy soldiers." :D

I have no doubt whatsoever that if you place books on those shelves, the books will soon be replaced by toy soldiers. Enjoy your wonderful new display space! It looks great!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

It looks terrific Alex, very nice job. I don't know who's taking longer to get their display area finished, you or me, started mine almost a year ago.

Its taken me a year and a half but I had to build a whole new room. Its been slow but it should be worth it as long as my daughter doesn't put her doll collection in it. :D

Looks great, you will have it filled in no time, if not already.

Alex: Really, really nice cabinet. Looks great and can't wait to see the figures and scenes displayed. This makes me want to get my area professionally finished and take down my panelling. I want to invade the whole basement except her laundry room. Think she would mind? I slowly got most of it. John:D

Alex:

Is that in your basement area? Just a suggestion if that if it is in the basement...be sure you have a sump pump and a back-up generator. My sump pump was working but lost electricity and I got flooded in the basement damaging some of the KC boxes (in one of NJ's worst snow storm 4 years ago prior to my move in AZ).

BTW, I got the de-iced. Looks much better than the original.

Alex, burn the dolls if they show up  and put the books someplace else. Nice work, but I would bet you will need more. Remember we're guys and more IS better:cool:

1st Class Alex. I want to add on another room to display my collections but it hasnt passed muster with the wife.

Good work Alex.

Fubarrrrrrrrrrrr

Here is what some of the glass shelves will look like with mirrored background. I still can't decide on what stain would look good.

I would go dark, like a mohagony or cherry wood finish. What ever you chose will look fantastic!

Beautiful! Try to match the dominate color that's in the room. It should look good. I'm still coming over to help you set up the displays. LOL.:D

Looking really nice, Alex. I go with a light stain at first like golden oak or a maple, if you think it's too light you can always go darker before you poly, but it will real tough to go lighter once a dark stain is put on.;) Whatever you end up doing I'm sure it'll be awesome.:)

Fred

I wouldn't recommend a dark stain because the color of the vehicles and the uniforms of most of the vehicles and troops you're going to display (other than winter) are dark already. If you do that, the whole thing will be too dark and you want a stain to offset it so it doesn't look that dark. Yes, it's true you'll have illumination but you're not going to have the figures illuminated all the time.

I think the natural color looks great, and is perfect for displaying the troops. I would just go with sealing the wood with a satin polyurethane.

I'm liking the lighter color but maybe its because I'm getting used to it but I would like a dark color but I am scared to go to dark. I'm testing on sample pieces of wood.
