As we all have noticed the price per figure & vehicle has gone up roughly 30 % . I remember the 50.00 cavalry days . Does anyone think it would work if K & C made 6 - 8 figure sets but lowered the price on each figure ? I do not know if its feasible , just a thought on how to stretch a K & C dollar . I`m sure I`m not the only person who has felt the price increase , right ?

Not sure that just having 6 - 8 fig sets alone, can lower the selling price ... as the savings would perhaps be limited to packaging only. Additionally some themes, such as WWII do not readily support bulk offerings as the individual action poses vary greatly.

On the other hand, themes such as NAP, AWI & Alamo more readily support bulk offering as these usually involve movement/fighting in lines, columns & squares.

It has been suggested that perhaps if K&C were to offer ... say 4 figs standing & firing ... their angle of their arms may vary, or if one was hatless, or if one had a moustache, or if one had a torn uniform ... it would involve using one basic mould and running a higher production volume on a single piece.

Now this should be able to reduce the average selling cost ... as well as presenting diomakers/collecters with a more creditable/realistic formation of troops.

This formula is used successfully by other manufacturers ... but if it works, I believe IMHO it should not stand in the way for K&C to adopt a similar approach ... for lines such as the NAPs, AWI, Alamo .. or say the marching WWI, LAH etc etc.

I also understand the call for more melee figs in the NAPs & AWI series .. and personally, I would be prepared to pay slightly more for such individualistic poses, compared to a more generic standing at the ready or standing firing.

Old Dragoon,

I totally agree with you about the need for figures doing the same thing, but having something different about them. K & C has done this before with the old 71st Napoleonic figures and then again with the Mexican infantry, with and without moustache.

I would like to see even more of these. If the head could be made as a separate part then you could easily have three heads each made with a different hat, tint of the head or angle of sight. Andy has always maintained that he didn’t want to do this because it takes up too much room storing all these different types of the same figure. But I would answer it takes so much shelving to store 1,500 figures. So make only 500 of each version. The storage room remains the same and we diorama builders would be happier. The painters would only have to paint three different heads. I think this would increase the total sales figures. Of course you would only need to do this with figures that are going to placed right next to each other, such as the firing lines or marching formations.

Addendum

say ... if K&C was offering 3 slightly different standing firing or others similarly ... these may be boxed as a set to save on packaging/storage .. as I am sure these would sell almost as well.

yes ... perhaps such boxed sets sales may sell slightly lower than individual boxed sets ... but IMHO, the actual number of figures sold should actually increase.

For eg. they may sell 1000 individual box of single figs ... to total 1,000 figs
they could easily sell 700 sets of 3 figs ... to total 2,100 figs

Hope I am being clear.

I think Andy's & King and Country profit margin lies within the RETAIL SALES world. So, we won't be seeing "bulk selling" from them - IMHO.
