Just want to share with you my latest acquisition...A C-47 Dakota in 1/30 scale, perfect for the K&C paratroops.

Couldn't wait for Andy to provide the troop transport so I went ahead and ordered a custom made C-47. made of solid Philippine Mahogany wood.

That is really cool. Can you tell us where you got that from. I might want to get one myself.

Brad:

I ordered it from the Philippines. My brother in-law knew some wood carvers in a town called Paete (Metro Manila region) and sent my specs. They did a good job...and so did the price $1,800.00, since it's one-of-a-kind(prototype). It will be cheaper if bought in bulk

That's too rich for my blood but it is an amazing looking plane. I'm sure it's even better in person. My compliments.

That is some fantastic plane. That is very comparable to the K&C warbirds (Andy only made 2-3 C47's in 1/32 scale). If it weren't for the fact that I believe Andy is going to try to make a deal with a company in the Phillopines to make warbirds again, I would be sorely tempted to get in on your brother's connection.

Brad, Louis:

Thanks for the compliments. My blood did curdle but time heals. This is one item I spent the most (never again, I say for now). ;)

Louis:
From what I understand from my brother-in-law, the carver will take a minimum 20 per order for him to be able to lower the price at wholesale ;) (no specific amount mentioned). He sort of "sweet talked" the guy in producing a prototype to be introduced in the U.S. market.

Now, keep this little secret amongst us ok? If my wife finds out, I'm dead meat. Youl'll know she did if the plane ends up in e-bay.

Ciao!

I'd be interested to find out how much he'd lower the price if he produced 20. Not sure I could afford it but I'd be curious (and tempted).

Again, that is one fantastic looking plane. That is one great scene you have there. Simply tremendous. Superlatives fail me.

I'd love to see that C47 hooked up by tow line to my Horsa Glider. What a spectacular scene we could set up. Believe me, I spent $1,800 on the Horsa Glider (and $2,000 for the one of a kind F14 Tomcat in 1/32 scale) so I understand where you are coming from on the financial side. Just for the record, Andy did make one Horsa Glider connected to a C47 by a tow line, but he told me it was in a smaller scale.

We too would be interested in what a larger order would cost. It might not be a bad idea for Treefrog Treasures to carry planes ... Just a thought.

Pete

I had a gentleman offer this plane to me back in February. It got my blood boiling for some new warbirds so I hope Andy comes through. Thats a great looking plane, I was very tempted

I'll shoot an e-mail to my brother-in-law and request for an estimate for 20 pcs and see how much more it can go down. I'll advise you guys when I get the info.

The size of the Plane is 38" in length and 42" wingspan an weighs about 10 lbs (35lbs including the crate it came in).

Louis:
It sure would look good with a Horsa towed behind. Are you anywhere close to Phoenix, AZ?

I have to agree with the other, noli, thats one awesome plane. You're just adding fuel to my warbird crave. I purchased a motion model corsair to get a feel of a wooden plane. I must say I am very impressed. Now I just hope Andy to come through.

Just out of curiosity (and not knowing what the cost might be for a larger order), what do you think these planes are worth? What would you consider a 'fair' price? They do look amazing.

Pete

See what you did noli-poli. Victory bought a wooden plane and I'm in the middle of buying one myself. I'm glad that you were impressed victory because I was wondering if they are that good. Did you get it in matte or gloss?

Peter R:

Based on wooden airplane prices on the internet (and hobby shops) the cost of a C-47 Dakota at 1/60 scale is $250 +s/h (http://www.allwoodwings.com) Some would sell lower if it is on sale or much more if customized (if you have particular letters or numbers that represent a certain squadron, etc.). A 1/72 would sell for $150. So I would surmise that a 1/30 scale, if mass produced, will be in the $500-600 +s/h range. In my case I paid $200 for the 35 lbs. freight ($1800 + $200 s/h).

If you are a connoisseur of fine models check http://www.fineartmodels.com. These models are in the $8K+ range. You have to be a nut to buy these models...but then again there are those who will take the plunge.

It was in matte finish.
I have no qualms about the model. It is a beauty...a perfect match for K&C paratroops.

I bought an extra GMC "Jimmy." Plan to convert this to a gasoline tanker. Would look good in a tarmac scene diorama.

N-P :)

Thats an awesome tank! Imagine the size of your K&C collection for that price.
