Visited friends east of St Louis last weekend. Went to see the Cahokia Mounds State Park and museum. This was a Mississippian Indian village from about 1100-1200 AD and had about 10,000-20,000 inhabitants. They built a series of huge mounds for burial and ceremonial purposes. The museum has an impressive life sized recreated village and a really nice diorama of the four seasons activity, 1:72 scale I think. Very well done and reminds me of the village scene created by Ken Olsen for the Alabama Natural History Museum a few yrs ago. Chris

I'm always amazed at ancient people being able to build huge earthen mounds and precision made pyramids with hand tools.
