Ok, here is another mystery, who made this gem?? I have my own suspicions, but it came out of the treasure trove (basement), no box, I think made of wood, resin, metal, but I believe it is wood mainly, I could be wrong. I just can't remember who made it. Nice Whippet Tank:

Thanks!
Tom

Tom,

I have no idea who made it if its wood, metal and resin. If its diecast I would say Toy Army Workshop. If it were tinplate I would say Heco. The only companies I am familiar with who worked in wood, metal and resin are K&C (who never made any World War I vehicles back then) and Pipeline (who also made only WWII vehicles to my knowledge).

Whoever made it, it is a great looking Whippet Tank! Nice pickup!:cool:

it has me stumped too, not Toy Army that is for sure. I have the Atkins version and that is all metal too. I just don't know, I thought maybe Commandant Miniatures and Ed Poole, but not sure, I think those are more conversions of existing vehicles.

Who knows? it is pretty neat though.

I'm pretty sure its not Ed Poole's work, his stuff was basically Dinky conversions. It is definitely very neat. I would give my right arm for the Heco Tinplate Whippet Tank!:)

Tom,

Just tell him it's Heco and see him get excited! :D Better still, tell him it was a joint venture by Heco and K & C :D;):p

Hi, guys! Tom, it's an intriguing piece. I thought of Ed Poole, too, when I saw the photo, but as Louis noted, he did mostly Dinky conversions, and also, I'm not sure if he mixed media (eg, metal, wood, resin) in any combination. Can you say which parts appear to be made of which material? The detail parts look like cast metal, attached to a core made of a block of wood. I wonder, too, if it's a commercially-produced piece, or one made by a very skilled hobbyist.

Excellent puzzle! I'll have to look in O'Brien and see if I can see anything similar.

Prost!
Brad

Sure Brad, get me all worked up for nothing . . .:p:D

Well Louis, I didn't want to break it to you, but I must, it is tin plate.....Heco......one of a kind from Clive in England..................:D:p

Just kidding, don't blame me for your temporary spike in blood pressure!!

That's O.K., as I am sure that you would offer it to me in trade for all those Alymer sets I gave you . . . ;)

Tom,i know who made this Tank exactly its a firm called BENGURION.
They are no longer in existence, the only reason i know is that when i started collecting they attended local toy swap meets, they offered a vast range of vehicles all in gloss, handpainted,i think the young son painted the faces hence the eyes (which all match my figures)
I have a 5.5 gun with a team, the figures are dire, but the gun is pretty good i will try and dig some figures out and photograph them to compare;)
Hope this helps regards Steve:)

Bengurion vehicles are die cast, not wood, metal and resin. I agree that they look a good bit like this vehicle, but I have never heard of Bengurion working in wood, metal or resin.

Sorry, my comment ended up out of sequence, I wrote the response but didn't hit Submit Reply until later. Sorry for any confusion!

Prost!
Brad (other Brad)

Louis not too sure about your comments im sure they did a 1/32 Lancaster, long before King&Country and that was mixed media,(i think it was over ambitious and the company soon ceased trading afterwards)
I was always slightly puzzled by their offerings, were they original castings, repaints etc, i have a Land Rover, that looks like a Britains stripped and repainted with new figures,i am basing my answer on the figure in the tank, the face painting is a give away to Bengurion.
I have just managed to pull some Bengurion figures out of the loft and will post some images soon.
regards Steve:D

I have a friend (Larry Lo) who has a mixed media 1:32 scale Lancaster, but does not know the maker, perhaps it is a Bengurion.

I was basing my statement on the several Bengurion vehicles I purchased back in 1997. I got an M-16 Quad Halftrack, a Rolls Royce Armored Car, and a DUKW from Bengurion, and all were cast metal. I still have the M113, and recently I added a Bengurion Staghound Armored Car, also die cast.

I have never come across a Bengurion vehicle that was not cast metal. However, as I did not know the 1:32 mixed media Lancaster was Bengurion, I certainly could be wrong. Just for the record, the recent Lancaster made by K&C was not its first - they made a Lancaster, a B17, a JU52, a Horsa Glider, and even a C-47 Dakota in 1:32 scale in wood back in the early to mid-1990's. I have a 1:32 scale classic K&C B17, JU52, and Horsa Glider in my collection from the mid-1990's in my collection.

Heres the Bengurion figures,i think ones a Harrier Pilot and the 5.5 infantry Howitzer, the figures are really bad like i said, the pilot seems to look like a Chota Sahib figure and i have a Female Navy wren that's a direct copy of a Chota Sahib figure.
The Gun crew are based on 1980s early 1990s British Army Dpm(Disruptive Pattern Material) the 5.5 howitzer i really like its too high gloss and maybe could do with a spay of satin varnish and the wheels need a matt finish really?
The Howitzer was bought at a London Show and was boxed its dated 1995/1996 but i had bought earlier figures around 1991/1992 featuring Gulf War items.
Regards Steve

Thanks for the inputs, I have a Bengurion Tiger Tank, I am going to pull it out and compare.

Steveo is right, it is bengurion. I used to sell them in the shop. All resin.

I have a few left - a German armored car and US halftrack with mortar. They are neat. I really liked their centurion tank. That was one impressive piece.

Lou, I don't think Bengurion made aircraft. I never saw a single plane made by them - mostly armor, soft vehicles and artillery. The made more modern stuff too.
