I continue to experiment with multi-model displays. It's a challenge because model airplanes have such a large display-footprint. Shot from ground level, many items to the rear are all but invisible. I can pack all the sets that I want onto the matt/backdrop area, but that simply exacerbates the problem. BTW, the front-most Camel in the first image is perhaps eighteen inches from the lens. Anything in the foreground would have appeard wildly magnified. Perhaps my best bet for a three model "field" in 1/30 are the Jenkins triplanes, as they really are diminutive.

Great dio, Moe. Brings back so many fond memories, especially the smell of burned castor oil. :wink2: -- Al

VERY COOL MOE!!!

love the backdrop...

who made the hangar?

Hi Mike,

Coming from you the compliment really means something, so thanks!:D

The image for the backdrop was downloaded from a wallpaper site and was then duplicated on a wide-format printer. Most of us likely wouldn't have such a printer laying around, but the poster could always be done at Office Depot or Kinkos. The website in question is here:

As for the hangar facade, that's courtesy of JJD. Jenkins also makes a German model. These are not knockoffs, BTW. Each is unique in weight, dimension and detailing. Here's a pic of the German version:

Thanks Al,

The "airline experience" is such that most passengers find it a pretty civilized activity. Humbug, me thinks. Jets are for kids!

Beautiful scene Moe. Chris

Thanks Chris.

Being a subset within what's frequently described as a niche hobby, us TP collectors have gotta stick together! I always enjoy your model pics and your excellent displays.:D

Having logged a few thousand hours in C-130E/Hs and MC-130Es, I quite agree. :smile2:

Thanks Moe, means alot coming from an Enthusiast and accomplished dioramist such as yourself. :salute::

Moe, once again checking out your Camel and Triplane aerodromes and once again I am impressed by how well you have set them all up and just how well the hubbub of a WW1 aerodrome is portrayed and must have looked. Thanks to JJD for his vision and how well he completes that vision with everything a collector could want to bring his aerodrome to life. I'm very thankful John has seen fit to carry out his vision with all the extras that make collecting the aircraft such a fun pursuit. -- Al

My sentiments precisely, and thanks for your help in bringing it all to fruition.:)

To expand the field of focus, I have in the past used a telephoto lens and stood well back from the model. If you are six to ten feet away, the few inches difference in parts of the model make little difference to the overall focus. You can get the same result with a compact digital camera. Love the dio and the planes :salute::

Thanks Fitzgibbon; Would love to attend a TS-photography symposium!:)

Stunning dio and photography. The ground and backdrop works perfectly for this scene.

Thank you for your kind comments. My goal is to have my imaging work catch up with the quality of Jenkins' models. Got a way to go, me thinks!

A SYMPOSIUM...a bit out of my league Moe but, if you come to Brisbane next July for our annual TS Diorama unveiling, we could perhaps get Barney to do a guest spot on photographing dios - we had around 60 listening to Andy and Gordon on dio building this year so it is a reasonably logical extension. And I'm sure we could find a billet for you among the crew. Love to have some American interaction. :salute::
