The pose was originally done by Airfix in the 70s. It's been knocked off and included in dime store bags of figures for many years. The knock offs are a little smaller. The original Airfix were in an dark orange color. Great figures. CTS had current production Airfix Indians for a long time. They might still have them.

Thank you for the info.. Who are CTS ?......the fig is a red color...a true 54mm compared to another Airfix soldier I have.....I brought them for my first grandson ...about 10 yrs ago...I am sure they came in a box....anyway...a great set..I would like to try and get another set....thanks again..TomB

It came from an Airfix original but in red plastic it must be a copy and is a Plains Indian not an Apache! As to the size comparisin with other Airfix figures - they, like all makers, were not consistent across ranges and sometimes even within sets.

I was making a joke when I said he was an Apache as Tom clearly wanted to know who made the figure, but FYI Apaches are part of the Plains Indian group.

Sorry - I missed the joke in my haste to be the first to say what the figure was... only to realise too late that I was way, way down the list of responses! Do some of you guys sit forum watching waiting to pounce! ;)

Interesting comment about Apaches being part of the Plains Indian group. I hadn't realised that - always thought they were 'Mountain' or 'Desert' rather than Plains. What actually determines the designation anyway?

Mike, I don't actually know if the figure is meant to represent an Apache, but he does remind me of a figure from the Britains Deetail range. The Apaches mainly occupied the southern part of the Great Plains which certainly does include some arid areas, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plains_Indians

Airfix plains Indian ( Souix ) first made 1977. Designed by Ron Cameron. who also sculpted the bulk of the DEETAIL range

Thank you for that....nice sculpt....from memory the other figures were good too...TomB

While Apaches may scientifically be classified as Apache, they mostly were desert and mountain people in the South West and into Mexico.
