Hi, all, here's a question on navigating through the list of new posts:

Can we page from one new post to the next one? What I'm looking for is functionality to go to the next new post in order, having accessed one in the list of new posts. I haven't found it yet, if such functionality exists. I've been able to go to the next post in a thread, but not the next new one, across threads. Have I missed it, or does the site not support it?

Thanks in advance, prosit!
Brad

I'm not sure I understand the question. When I look at the new posts page, I will look at the new post in a thread but then I have to go back to look at the next post on the list. I think you're asking if we can avoid the going back to access the next post. If so, I'll ask Shannon.

That's right, Brad, I think you've got it. I usually access the forum, click "New Posts", select one of the new threads to read it, and then, to read another, I click "New Posts" again and return to the list. I was wondering if we have the functionality to go from the one post to the next new one, without having to navigate back to the list each time. But now that I think about it, I'm not sure that this forum template has that functionality. A lot of forums use this same software, and I don't recall now seeing the functionality elsewhere.

Well, if it is there, I'd like to know how to apply it, and if it isn't, no biggie.

Thanks, prosit!

Just click 'new posts' then open each post that interests you in a separate tab.

Via forum options change the presentation so that the latest post is at the top.

Delete the tab when you have read/responded to it.

I think this maybe the answer you are looking for

If you clock on new posts and then from the list go to the oldest of the posts. At the end of the thread is the quick reply box, below are "post quick reply" "go advanced" below those boxes and it is is written in black so kind of hard to see, you will find <<previous thread | next thread>> Click next thread and it will take you to the second oldest of the new threads.

Hopefully that is what you are looking for ??? and that my explanations makes sense and that it actually does work

Thanks, britfarmer, that's close to what I'm looking for.

I had tried the "View Next Thread" link before, but from the first (newest) post in the New Posts lists, and that always returned the message that there were no new posts. That message made sense, from the point of view of the newest post.

Going to the oldest post does make that method of paging work, but only through a number of posts. I haven't worked out the pattern yet. It may be that "View Next Thread" is going to the next new thread-not jes' the next new post in any thread. Or, it may treat an updated thread, eg, one with a new post, as new, for the purposes of paging. I found that after paging from the oldest post to the next, via "View Next Thread", getting through a couple of posts, then getting the message that there were no new posts, I could repeat the process by going to what was then the oldest post.

Kind of what I'm looking for. In the meantime, of course, I jes' go to New Posts and skim through the list. I'll keep tinkering with the searches, to see what happens.

Thanks everyone, for scratching your puzzlers over this one, prost!
