I had a customer contact me, telling me that Canada did not charge import duties on toy soldiers. I think he's wrong. Can my Canadian friends confirm this?

Peter , I have never paid import duties on toy soldiers . Also I have never paid HST (our national sales tax that is charged on imports .) I think the hgher the $$ amount the greater risk this HST may be charged . The rate is 13 % in New Brunswick .

I have always received toy soldiers by mail . It is possible if a courier is used you will be charged a brokerage fee.
I also had another member of the forum advise me that there were no import duties on Toy soldiers but I no longer have that information

Hope this helps

Kirk

Hi
I just paid $35.00 CDN import duty on an item from EBAY.That hurt plus postage of almost 35.00.So we are paying an import duty on toy soldiers.
Cheers
Dave

He is wrong, I have paid duties on toy soldiers and other things, even when they were marked as a gift.

Are you sure it was duty or was it a brokerage fee charged by the courier companies and the collection of HST?

Terry

Hi
The package was in the mail.Nothing on the slip that said HST was it must have been duty.
Cheers
Dave

If you paid duty and taxes then these amounts should have been indicated on Form E14 - CBSA Postal Import Form which should have been attached to your mail item !

I have stopped buying anything from Canada, the postage is 2 to 3 times higher from anywhere else that I buy from in the world. Postage is a killer anyway, most often is around $50 for most of my purchases, but the same item from Canada is more likely to be around $120, they have lost the plot, no offence to any of their residences on this forum. Robin.

Canadians should expect to pay HST plus a brokerage fee for customs inspecting the parcel for TS as they are CP pricing verges on extortion... so villagehorse you are not mistaken...
