Car-mageddon is Here! (1 Viewer)

Weather reporting went downhill back in the late 1960s when mini skirted "weather girls" would drop their crayons on camera. Bobbie at least was popular with US troops.

The Weather Channel really lost its credibility when NBC bought the channel and merged it with its weather division, with a shift in emphasis from responsible weather broadcasting to entertainment. They fired nearly all of the veteran on-air staff, and the TWC hasn't been the same since.

I like Accu-Weather better, or "five guys in a barn in State College", as I like to call 'em. Their forecasts seem to be more accurate, more often, than other weather services are. And the emphasis is on reporting the weather, not on showbiz.

Prost!

Over in Arcadia for one of the best Chinese meals you'll ever have. Getting here, though, was another story.

Two hours in LA traffic for what should be about half the time. Took Alicia Parkway to the 5 (a parking lot), then took the 605 (a bit better) to the 60 to LA, got off at the 19, took Rosemead to Duarte to South Golden West and here we are! :)

Well, made it back in what it should take: little over an hour.

Brad, I'm starting to worry about you. Starting to sound a bit Californish (or insert "left coastish", if it sounds better) with all this freeway terminology. Did you take the Slauson cutoff, get out of your car, and cutoff your Slauson? (apologies to Mr. Carson).^&grin -- Al

Hi Brad,

Ha!^&grin^&grin California is quite different from Kansas. In giving directions in Kansas, we might say, "Take the highway north, then turn on the gravel road on your left. Continue 1.8 miles until you come to the house with the flagpole in front and turn right. Drive till you pass the feedlot, cross the railroad tracks, and, eventually, you will come to the lake. Take a left, and you should be there." {eek3}:rolleyes2::wink2:

I hope you are having a great time enjoying California.{bravo}}

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Al,

This is the place to be. Very relaxing and I will take it over the East any time.

By the way, we did pass the Slauson exit :D. One thing I noticed about traffic is that people seem to be tolerant, not a lot off cutting in or out.

Pat,

It has been a relaxing time and as you mentioned to me the Pacific is cold :)

I recall a song, "California Dreaming". Sounds pretty great.^&grin^&grin^&grin -- Al

I had fun in Los Angeles in 1979. My friends used me as excuse to take me to all the tourist sites they hadn't gone to yet. I was in the Atlantic ocean one day and the Pacific two days later. Highways weren't bad during my visit.

Narrator: Then there were my father and mother, two people who could find an argument in any subject.
Father: Wait, you think the Atlantic is a greater ocean than the Pacific?
Mother: No. Have it your way. The Pacific is greater.
Narrator: I mean, how many people argue over oceans?

Back home....somewhere east of Laguna. It was apparently 106 in NYC. Part of the grass is dried out.

When is the next flight to John Wayne Airport?

Carmageddon II was held this past weekend and by all reports was a success as the remainder of the removal of the Mullholland Bridge was completed. Traffic is now open on the 405 Angelenos.

Should have revived this thread when we were out there this year. Actually went to Arcadia twice this year, the second time after a visit to the Getty Museum. That is a fantastic place. Highly recommended.
