The subject on would the final movie of the civil war trilogy "The Last Full Measure" ever get made was briefly discussed on another thread on this board and general consensus was it's doubtful because of the box-office failure of "Gods and Generals"
However, having just finished reading the novel again I idly started to sketch in some names of actors that could IMO portray the main roles if the current decision to shelve the project was ever reversed. Assuming that the actors used in Gettysburg/Gods and Generals would be too old to resurrect their roles-with perhaps the exception of Daniels and Berenger who just might get away with Chamberlain/Longstreet one more time..... try these:-
U.S.Grant- Aiden Quinn- saw him playing Sen.Henry Dawes in HBO's "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee" and boy he looked a lot like that famous picture of Grant leaning on his tent post. If not him maybe Kevin Kline or at a push Mel Gibson.
Sherman- Damien Lewis although a Brit if you put a beard on him with his gaunt features and flaming red-hair he's the spit of old Tecumseh!
JEB Stuart- Val Kilmer or Jake Gyllenhaal wearing full beards either one could pull it off.
Pickett- got to have Stephen Lang back in the role
Lincoln-guest appearance by Liam Neeson especially if he takes the role in Spielberg's planned "Lincoln in the War" .
That's my two cents worth but we still need actors for
Bobby Lee- both Duvall and Sheen are now a little past playing the role again
Little Phil Sheridan-??
A P Hill- maybe Nic Cage???
Custer-??
Hancock the Superb-??
Jeff Davis-??
John Wilkes Booth-??
Oh! yeah nearly forgot there just has to be a part for Dennis Franz as Ben "The Beast" Butler as Franz is Butler personified.
