Hi Guys,
While photographing our upcoming and latest ‘Casualty Set’ I decided to bring together the other Marine Corps casualties that K&C has produced for the ‘VIETNAM’ series.
This newest 2 x marine set is inspired by an actual black and white photograph taken by Don McCullin (now Sir Don McCullin) who was ‘embedded’ with the US Marines fighting to recapture Hue City during the TET Offensive of 1968.
Don McCullin was and still is one of the finest and bravest of the combat photographers of the 20[SUP]th[/SUP] Century.
Now in his 80s he is still photographing but in his later years has turned to more peaceful landscapes, still-life works and commissioned portraits. His previous photographic record of conflicts in Vietnam, Biafra, Cyprus, the Middle East and Northern Ireland is second-to-none.
I read elsewhere that his greatest professional regret was that the British Government refused to allow him to accompany the Task Force down to the Falklands in 1982.
I feel sure he would have taken the most iconic of images had he been given permission... What a great loss for all of us and a massive disappointment for him!
Back in 2020, it was announced that Angelina Jolie was to direct a biopic about Sir Don’s life and work with actor Tom Hardy in the lead role. Probably due to Covid this project appears to be ‘stalled’ at this time. I hope one day it gets the ‘green light’.
In the meantime... All the best and thankyou Don McCullin!
