Anyone remember that song by Jim Croce will be able to understand where I'm going with this.
Soooo, Monday night I am at the mall helping my oldest son choose a suit for his homecoming dance. After we were finished, we went to the foodcourt for some subway. As we sat there eating, I suddenly got flooded with memories of him when he was a little boy and the various little things we did at the mall- took silly pictures in the photobooths together, fun time going to toys r us buying him a new power ranger if he was good while I was away on business. Watching matinees at the movie theaters- those were some good times.
Anyway, Ive been noticing as time is passing my kids are requiring less and less of my time. They have been all Ive ever really lived for, the whole reason I went into the army was so that I could go to college and try to provide them a better life with more opportunity than I had. Still, I am 40 now and am looking at more and more time where they dont need me as much. Heck, Saturday night everyone was preoccupied with whatever it was that they were doing so I went downstairs and ironed my clothes for this week. Yeah, exciting life huh?? {sm4}{sm4}
So Im guessing there are a lot of you guys with a tad more experience out there than me that might give me some pointers or words of wisdom. Granted, our littlest guy is 6 and he's a handful but its still different- he likes to hang with his older brother and sister. I guess I am slowly getting weened off of being a neccesity and becoming more of a "in case of emergency call dad" {sm4}{sm2}
I love to work out but at 40, joints tend to flare up quicker so I can only do that for so long during the day. I think I am actually finding cooking rewarding again- been playing around with perfecting my fajitas and miso soup. I dunno- any of you muchachos gone through this feeling and got some words of wisdom for the next gen??
Best regards
CC
