Guys, I used Celluclay for the first time last thursday on a dio I'm making and would like to pass on a tip/rookie mistake I made. Don't make it too wet!. I put too much water in the mix and here I am on Sunday and its only just drying!

Just thought I'd pass this on for anyone planning to use it,as I've been waiting three days to start painting. Good stuff to work with though.

Rob...it was some tricky stuff for me...Mestell swears by it...I did a 3'x5' flat base over styrofoam...put a fan on it to dry it quickly...when finished...the diorama table sat in front of a large window getting direct sunlight...a week later after it was dried and painted...I heard a loud "pop"...it had shrunk enough so that it literally popped off the styrofoam base in a full 3'x5' sheet...I never had good results with it...I think it works better if it is wrapped around corners and edges...holding it in place better...good luck...

Mestell had told me to make it the consistency of oatmeal...a fan will dry it overnight...

Thanks Mike, hopefully as it dried slowly maybe it won't come off,I did also wrap it round some of the edges which as you say may help. It definitely had the consistency of oatmeal but was quite easy to use.

Cheers

Mestell also added white glue to his mix...something I did the second time...but still got bad results...I think wrapping it around the edge will save you...I did not do that...it seems like a great product as it makes a nice texture and you can sink rocks into it and bury styrofoam under it to create hills...I may try it again...show some pics when you finish...good or bad...I would like to see your results...

by the way...somebody else commented on an old thread that they had the same problems I did...it "popped off"...good luck Rob

Mike, yes I hope if all goes well,to have the dio finished in a couple of weeks time and will post some pics. Fingers crossed the Celluclay stays put!

Cheers
