They are a nice model, I bought one at a swapmeet 20 years ago for AUD $10 which was a real bargain even back then. The barrel used to elevate when you turned the turret etc, but it was in a different shade of Green to yours, but I guess the color varied somewhat over time as did most Britains models.

Btw, my fav Centurion model was a 1/50 scale Polistil version in a light sand color. No Centurion fan is complete without one ;)

Bernard,
Are now going to start on the Autobahn diorama ? I can see the beast now sitting perp to traffic with lookers screaming their heads off:eek::eek:
Mike

Congratulations Bernard -- nice looking piece.

Dick

Yo Dick mate yes but alas just returned it, it had a curve in the Gun Barrel, its a real shame in such a superb condition, but if I had kept it you would have roasted me  lol, so its back to the Minichamps Centurion, its a much better detailed model of a Centurion, has the Bren gun mounted on the Turret and the smoke Grenade holders etc, not Old Britains but there you go.
Bernard.

I thought the curved barrel was for shooting over hills :D

Yo Trooper Bob, when I was in the QOH and made a smart remark like that it got me two weeks Jankers, have warned you before Trooper, so this time its a months stable duties lol :D
Sergeant Major Crunchbucket.;)

Hey guys, I was talking to a ex Centurion driver a few years back and he said he nearly lost his head on more than one occassion. No, not the panic style of losing your head, I think it was more turret/gun related ;)

Yo Oz, never heard that from any of our drivers, but will mail a couple of the mates from the QOH and ask them about that. I was talking to one of my best mates from the 3rd Carabineers yesterday, and we were on the phone talking about memory lane the way you do, and he was telling me when they were on the Ranges firing, they had a misfire. The procedure then was for the Radio Operator to open the breech and extract the shell by hand climb up open the hatch and chuck it out as fast as possible, which was a very dangerous thing to do, because it could go off at any time was it had been charged. I had to do it twice its a real bottle goer, anyway Tommy opens the Breech and the shell exploded in the Breech, he was a very lucky guy, he was in hospital and could not see for four days, he thought he had lost his eyesight, but all turned out well thank God.

Forgot a little bit of the Conversation Oz, Tom said to me, my mate has a Military Landrover, a Scout armoured car, and a Centurion, but he has been looking everywhere for a Chieftain cannot find one. So I says they are easy to get what scale does he want, Tom replies 1.1 you plonker lol  he collects the real Mc Coy's DOH, felt a right Pratt:eek:

He sure was lucky, I had enough dramas playing with crackers as a kid without messing with the big stuff

Btw, I can't be sure know that the guy I was talking to was actually the driver, but from what he was saying he had to be occupying some place in front of the turret where he could stick his head out.

Yo Oz, could only be the driver the other three where in the Turret, Commander, Gunner, Radio Operator.
Bernard.

Fair enough. I have been trying to google some info on the turret and found that it didn't have a turret lock which could be a problem I guess as it could swing around on corners. Alternatively I was wondering if the turret was a danger to the driver when the turret is aimed towards the back of the Centurion. If not, I can't think of anything else

Look what happens when you leave one out in the rain! (raining practice rounds that is :D).

As you can see there should be enough clearance between the underside of the turret bustle and the hull for the drivers head to poke out when the turret is in reverse position.

Yo Jeff, can you fix this one for me and put a coat of Mititary GREEN paint on it, let me know the postage (signed for):p

Yo Oz here is the answer to that question, one of QOH Centurions on the training Area.
Bernard.

BTW the Turret could not move it was operated Electrically and moved around in a set of cogs, I remember once we hit a tree with the barrel you want to hear the noise of grinding metal. When the gun was not in use it was always clamped down to the rear of the Tank in a bracket.

Hey Cardo, you are no doubt correct, but I suspect Aussie tankers welded more baskets onto the turret to keep their beer in :) Btw here's where I got the turret lock idea from: http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/lsm/dhmg/mahon5.html
