Yo Oz, never heard that from any of our drivers, but will mail a couple of the mates from the QOH and ask them about that. I was talking to one of my best mates from the 3rd Carabineers yesterday, and we were on the phone talking about memory lane the way you do, and he was telling me when they were on the Ranges firing, they had a misfire. The procedure then was for the Radio Operator to open the breech and extract the shell by hand climb up open the hatch and chuck it out as fast as possible, which was a very dangerous thing to do, because it could go off at any time was it had been charged. I had to do it twice its a real bottle goer, anyway Tommy opens the Breech and the shell exploded in the Breech, he was a very lucky guy, he was in hospital and could not see for four days, he thought he had lost his eyesight, but all turned out well thank God.
Bernard.
