The prisoners of war who were brutally executed during The Great Escape have been remembered today 70 years on from the famous breakout.
On the night of 24 March, 1944, around 250 captured officers prepared to crawl out of the German Stalag Luft III camp through a tunnel they had spent 11 months constructing.
But only 76 made it out before they were spotted.
Three made it to safety, the rest were caught, of which 50 were executed.
Today [24 March 2014], in a tribute to the fallen, RAF personnel reconstructed the brave attempt to flee the camp in Zagan, Poland, built to hold 10,000 allied airmen in World War Two.
