I know this is not going to be popular with my British friends but I'm glad Barcelona won in the Final. One, I used to live in Barcelona and always root for the Spanish teams (although Real Madrid is my favorite team -- I lived in Madrid too -- and Barcelona is the arch enemy) and two, my other favorite team is Arsenal and, thus, I don't particularly like Manchester United.

Okay, I'm waiting for the nasty posts to follow:D

Dont worry the man u fans will be drinking Rome dry by now. I dont really follow footy much now, only once the world cup starts. I used to like chelsea, when i was in the uk.

Sorry if you guys are upset. I've been there, trust me. However, the greatest Final I ever saw was when Man U beat Bayern Munich by 2-1 (I think that was the final score) in Barcelona (I also think) by scoring both goals in added time. Now, that was incredible.

Brad, 1999 the year of the treble! Man U didn't play as well as Barcelona tonight :( but this season they have picked up another three pieces of silverware.

MAN U are known as the scum :D :D :D and I am not offended you are entitled to support whatever team you like !!

Simply put, Barcelona outplayed them and MU mostly went to sleep...:D. MU looked very lazy, very slow, when compared with Barcelona. Lack of motivation? Disbelief in climbing mountains?

80 minutes of complete domination by Barça...it was beautiful...:)

When you put and play the ball on the ground, the English teams have no idea what to do…

OLÉ …………

I wouldn't agree completely. Chelsea knew what to do against Barça in the semis and they were unlucky not to win it (that ref, remember?, he was allergic to penalties)...

Whilst i think Rod's description is a bit over the top,Man U were outplayed and the best team on the night won.

However too say all English teams have no idea is simply not true.I'm sure Barca and even Brazil have off nights;)

ManU is and have been for the last 3 years the best Club in the World, personally I don't like the English style of playing Futbol, but it is just me, I am from another school of playing soccer.

My statement was the way MaU play is physical and fast pace soccer. Last night, what Barcelona did , was keeping the ball on the ground slowly and neutralized that pace. So after 10 minutes the extraordinary CREW of Tevez, C Ronaldo, Roney and company, was not able to control the ball and use the strength normally used by these players. (I am not sure you guys will understand my point..) this is the way Premier League is playing and is fine, but not my style.

So my friend Rob, once again happy birthday...

Absolutely agree with you Rod,no two ways about it Man U were outplayed, best team won.:).And you are quite right of course Barca is a different and very entertaining style of football from ours, its what helps make the world game so enjoyable.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Rod:)

IMHO Barcelona got the tactics right on the night and Sir Alex didn't. The wonderful midfield pair of Iniesta and Xavi bossed the midfield with a superb display of passing cutting out a very ineffectual MU midfield and protected the back four by limiting MU opportunities to get forward. Vidic had a nightmare and many of United's players just didn't turn up.

Despite all the comments about the way the 'English' game is played I think it's worth mentioning that until last Wednesday night MU had remained unbeaten in 25 CL games - an astonishing record in any sport at the highest echalon. Although its not to everyones taste there is no doubting that the English PL is the most watched, supported and lucrative football competition on the planet. The income generated contributes to the building of multi-national teams - the so-called big four have dominated Europe for at least the last 5 years, only one club has broken the English Club stranglehold and that club is Barca!

I don't support either MU or Barca but admire them as both as football institutions. But I'd rather spend the weekend in Barcalona, the Catalans wonderful people and the food is better!

Well I am a ManUnited supporter so I am probably very much biased.

BUT, there is a clear fact that seems to be forgotten here: without a Danish referee, Barcelona would have watched the Final from home! However nice they play and whatever people say now, that is a fact!

Now re the Final itself, I think it became evident that Guardialo was tactically stronger than SAF. If you play a team that is dominating because of its midfield (Iniesta, Xavi, not even Messi), but which has a battered, slow defense, you have to either play offensive against this or try to dominate the midfield yourself. And neither the one or the other did happen. Ronaldo is not a forward and Rooney is a striker, not a left wing. The team set-up that won at the Emirates (with a 1-0 lead at hand!!) is not a guarantee to win as well against Barca. So Barca outplayed ManU in the midfield - completely - and were lucky that Vidic had a day-off (like against Liverpool at home) and that Ferdinand was not fit. It is also weird that you start with 2 top strikers on the bench and have the only Essien-type player left (with Hargreaves injured and Fletcher suspended) - Scholes - on the bench as well.

So yes, the best team won, but I am not sure had Hiddink been ManU coach for the night, the winner would also have been Barca.

Because it was evident that Barca could not play the same balla-balla against Chelsea - purely and simply because their midfiled was taken out of the game. ManU didn't do that, admired their summer football and gave in...

Very disappointing.

Besides all the posts, it seems that last year and this year are Futebol Spanish years:eek:. So, I do hope that this will stop in 2009 because next year is COPA DO MUNDO…..South Africa 2010…:D:)

Sorry Rod, but we're going all the way in 2010 to the Campeonato. It's about time!

Brad, you know that we can talk about that for a thousand years and never come to a consensus. If Brazil doesn’t make it, Spain is my second choice.

Cheers
