I have owned this set since the mid 1980's and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it, as to how many were made, value etc.

Try searching the forum using "chess set". I'm pretty sure we had a discussion about the set a couple of years ago, when one of the members acquired the set plus table. I think the discussion included production run, and also talked about resale values. There's a subforum for Stadden, under Other Manufacturers, I think, and the thread I'm thinking of is probably in there
