Cheaper kc airplanes (1 Viewer)

One complaint I had about K&C packaging material is that they're flimsy!
The polystone planes will need much more protection than their diecast counterparts, which means; stronger heavier boxes! The inner foam protection will not be enough without a stronger outer shell.

The polystone Corsair was well packed and had good protection so I would expect this to be the same here. I actually think K & C packaging is very good as I've had very few mishaps.

I think the K&C airplanes will sell. I have pre ordered one from Treefrog.

I was in England in July. I was able to attend the RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo) and talked to representatives from Airfix/Corgi.........they told me that Corgi will reintroduce the 1/32 scale planes soon. The Battle of Britain Memorial flyover at the show included a Hurricane, Spitfire, and a Lancaster. Corgi is working on something to commemorate the Battle of Britain. I hope this info was true and I guess time will tell.
Now THAT is exciting news, if the info is true. I had heard they were working on a Mark IX Spitfire when they stopped the line before. It would be a simple change from their Mk 1As but they need to fix the dihedral which is understated on their original line.

As Brad said the polystone planes the first time round did not move fast or nearly at all.

This time though you have the add ons and the range. I can see (and some have already) collectors ordering the plane and the figures.

Also times have changed and maybe Andy was too before his time when he did polystone before.

I championed the polystone warbird with Andy for years since i have worked with K&C UK full time and i will keep on now for a range as they are awesome and the time is right. There is a larger market of K&C collectors and there is a greater appreciation for what K&C does for the Hobby...........trend setter!

That is what I was thinking - back in 2000 when I first started collecting K&C - I remember getting hit with the sticker shock of those WWII Polystone Planes  - I was very new new to the Toy Soldier Collecting world and really thought those were HIGH PRICED PLANES - LOL - looking back on those day makes me laugh :p

I think the WARBIRD Market hadn't really come around and the collecting patterns of buyers had not accepted those works of art as they do today.

Corgi had really nice planes coming out in full metal (I have a few) and that production seem to satisfy the demand. Also I think the industry for High Quality WWII Models was still very young. IMHO.

I think Andy has come back and addressed a great growing market for affordable Warbirds ! It will be interesting to see how Figarti responds - they had a great Aircraft at $250 - now Andy is coming in at $159 per plane !

All makes great opportunities for the Collector !

The price of those polys were $99! What we wouldn't do to have that back but, with inflation, you can't complain about $159.

Brad - I agree with you - these prices on the polystone RAF Planes are a real steal for the collector ! :)

And Andy might have forced the entire Toy Soldier Market to produce new Warbirds under $160.00 for a while ! WOW - wouldn't that be great !

All I know is that I have never been into planes as much as other vehicles, but I am incredibly excited about this range and the display possibilities with all the figures. This was the first time I ever pre-ordered anything on Day 1. I collect mostly Bulge for WWII, so this was a banner day for me and not such a great one for my wallet. I can see a whole shelf devoted to 2 or 3 plane displays though - British and hopefully American and German. Already thinking about how to rearrange.

And isn't that a nice problem to have!:)

One important feature: polystone means,no zinc pest!! If one of your models has been affected in the past, you'll appreciate this!!

How do you think the arrival of the cheaper hurricane will affect the value and demand for much higher priced warbirds?

I'd like a cheaper Hs123 really beat up & weathered. Those things were always operating on fields close to the line & would constantly be landing, retooling, & taking off again. Would go well with any rear echelon setting...even with the pilot talking to ground troops he'll be supporting in an hour or two

Interresting airplane. I think only 32 of them were in the Luftwaffe and were operated almost entirely by only one unit - II. (Schl)/LG 2. Even though production stopped in 1940, they served in the Spanish Civil War, Invasion of Poland, Battle of France and the Eastern Front right to the end of the war.

Thanks. I looked it up. It is a serious problem but really just for older models made before 1960, so I don't think any of the Corgi or Hobby Master aircraft would be affected.

Sorry but I wish this was true. Recently I've lost the Corgi Presidential Helicopter and parts of the GMP P40 due to zinc pest. These models were produced less than 10 years ago.

Yes, that is the article I read too. I began collecting in the 1990s and had not heard of zinc pest. So I was surprised that Humbug has a problem with recent models from reputable manufacturers.

Terry
Apparantly it has shown up on some very small scale models (1/400) more recently but I haven't seen it in any of the 1/144 scales and up for any but the pre-WWII vintages.
