In no special order, here goes.

I got to get together with a lot of people I don't normally see like Hans, Tim Tyler, Andy, Gordon, Helen , Tammy and the Nevilles. Got to meet a whole bunch of new people like Greg Kempton and his son Adam (the future of the hobby), Jim Woodward (hope I got the last name right), Rick Wang from Figarti, Clive Gande (great guy), KV and Mike Tarantino (ucla1967). I really enjoyed the time I spent with Mike, a real class act. Apologies to anyone I left out.

Gordon's dioramas were fantastic and I really like the new Market Garden line. Wish I could afford one of those dios.

What can you say about Figarti except impressive all the way around. The breadth and depth was just spectacular. Not to take anything away from anybody else but they're a hard working bunch. I really love the B 17, especially the feel. It's not resin but made of polyurethane. If this plane plus groundcrew is 900, imagine what a single engine fighter could be. Here's hoping.

This old news but the Crimea Range is really good. I got all the sets and had a chance to examine it up close. Probably the best K and C sculpting ever.

I would have liked to have more to say about Britains, Jenkins and others but I'm still fighting this cold so Iwasn't up to full strength.

When I go to these shows I don't have any expectations about finding anything and for the most part I wasn't disappointed! However, Steven Chong did give me a couple of old K and C glossy as did Hans so thank you guys. That made the show. I did pick up some of the new LRDG items and a couple of current items at a discount that a K and C collector, Rich Zeller, was selling. Steven scored a resin Jag from him.

That's about it.

This is great news Brad. I can hardly wait to get my mitts on Set 2 now. Enjoy the show. Maybe I'll make it one of these days.
:):)

I forgot to mention another great highlight of the show. On Friday, Sagers, Treefrog, Sierra and Troops of Time hosted a dinner with Andy and Andy answered a bunch of questions. At the end of the dinner, each person was given a specially painted FJ in Ak colors (someone said it might also be Italy) and copies of Andy's drawing, which he signed for everybody. The FJ is from the set that has the British soldier with his hand raised. On the bottom of the figure is inscribed "Chicago 2007". Very neat.

Brad-
How did the new Jenkins figures look to you?

The highlite's of the Chicago show from my viewpoint was the Barzso castle, Conte's Pirate ship and his Spartans. We have never seen anything like the Conte Spartans before, truly an innovation.

Oops, a couple of people who I met who I forgot while doing the prior post at the airport was Carlos and his lovely wife Nancy and Dispatch Dave from King and Country UK.

The best part of the show every year is the people. I have given my opinion of the show's highlights (although, as I am not a Conte collector, I neglected to review his Roman War Galley, which was really something) on the various manufacturers threads, but I just wanted to thank all of you treefroggers I met or became re-acquanted with at the show for a really great time. To the regulars, like Brad (sorry again), Hans, Larry, Andy & Gordon Neilson, Rick Wang, Steven Chong (thanks again), Carlos and his lovely wife Nancy, Bill Sager, Tim Tyler, Pete & Shannon Reuss, the Nevilles, Daryll and Woody (OldCelt), Clive Gande (my banker bodyguard), George Guerriero and his dad, Matt and the Hobby Bunker crew, Dan Gagliasso, and Michael (UCLA1967), as always a pleasure. To some of the people I just met at this show, McKenna and his lovely wife, the Kilted Vampire and his lovely daughter (whom he embarassed by introducing her en mass to a bunch of us in an elevator), a nice couple from the Hamptons whose names escape me, Dispatch Dave, Helen Mok Sergeant and Tammy from K&C, it was such a pleasure meeting you, and I hope I get to see you in March at the Symposium.

And I almost forgot, it was fun to meet the very knowledgable and very humerous Gary Binder . . . he introduced himself to me as my "nemesis", and I thought how cool, I finally have my very own nemesis . . . now I have to perfect one of those villian laughs from the movies.

Guess I must be chop liver huh Louis.....next time you find yourself stuck in Chicago with noplace to stay it will be the street for you my friend....friend...oh so I thought!

Just kidding....see what trouble you can get into when listing out people! :D

I too would like to say that seeing EVERYONE was so much fun. We have a great little hobby here that is blessed with some first rate people. All the dinners...and drinks were the high point for me (And getting BBA005 for $80)...all the great soldiers was just icing on the cake...see you all next year! :):):)

Yikes Brian! How could I forget you, you lucky devil?

LoL...thanks Louis...She came up on Sunday to the show....sorry you missed a chance to meet her.

Sorry Brian didn't mean to forget you. You're one of us, one of the guys that makes going to Chicago worthwhile. Hope you get out here soon.

It was an honor to meet you Louis. You DO need to work on the villanous laugh. You are too friendly to be the bad guy, so I must be the evil one!

This was my first trip to the "big show". I really enjoyed meeting some of the guys and gals from the forum. What a great bunch!

I finally got to meet my suppliers. I was totally impressed by Shannon and Peter from Treefrog - what nice people! The Versteeg's from TSSD were very nice also. Matt from Hobby Bunker was nice enough to do a painting demo and explain about converting foam buildings. George Guerriero from Minutemen was good about letting us hang out with him and talk toy soldiers. Of course, a personal highlight was to meet my friend, customer and fellow collector Gary (GK5717). Leadmen shared many tips on soldiers and we shared a few memories of the OLD days. All these, plus the many other nice people, made the show a special event.

This OTSN thing could get to be habit-forming!

Gary

The daughter now known as Vampirette was amazed at all you guys and she did change 3 shades of red:eek:

I agree with you Louis about the people. Whilst I bought and saw a great deal of figures I enjoyed meeting everyone. I spent more time just talking with people than looking at figures.

So It was a pleasure meeting Fubar,Louis,Chris,Shannon,Peter,DeskJazzeum,Stephen, UCLA,Hoogli,Dave,Richard ,Ken,Leadmen,Old Celt, and a host of others.

A special thank you to the Halls for buying the ticket for the flight out there. Yes< I work for toy soldiers;)

All,
As a "tour Virgin" I have to comment on the great time I had at the show.
Putting faces to names was nearly as much fun as the buying oppurtunities.
I'm sure I'll forget someone but in particular thanks to Louis Hans Larry and Brad for their introductions to both collectors and dealers alike.
Steven Chong for his assistance in finding me the last piece for the DDay series, UCLA also for his assistance. A special mention to Brian for his chauffering.
A special mention also for the Neville's and Dave for listening to my late evening ramblings over a beer or two.
Carlos and Nancy where we put the world to rights over breakfast.
In addition meeting up with Shannon and Pete, Tim Tyler, George, Matt, Mike and Myzcka,Bill, all from the dealer community and Bill Sager's great sense of humour shows what a great bunch we have in this hobby.
Highlights for me were in no particular order

Louis being accosted by some mad collector!!
Despatch Dave being ID'd at a certain bar (he's a grandfather I believe!!)
Brian's photos!!
Figarti's professional "shock and awe" presentation.
Gordon Neilson's dioramas.

After walking the Halls for 4 days my calf muscles are almost back to when I was playing Rugby so next year for any new attendeees I recommend getting in some training. Also take a compass. The number of times I found myself gpoing round the same corridors over and over again was crazy.

Again many thanhks to all I met and apologies to those whom I've ommitted.
I guess I should start planning for next year.
Clive
