Chinese Spy Balloon over US (2 Viewers)

Really weird in the age of satellites. I haven't seen any great explanation. Why not shoot it down? Is there some type of international law that prohibits that if the object is above a certain height? Otherwise difficult to understand.

It’s probably not shot down because we do the same.

Bits might fall on and hurt someone is the explanation I read.
 
What a humiliation that the US has allowed this. Think about the trillions of dollars spent on the military and the Chinese are floating a balloon over the US and there is no apparent way to prevent it. We truly live in the age of Idiocracy. Russian and Chinese leaders must fall on the ground laughing at these amateurs. What is even going on here? The Chinese must have known that this balloon would be seen. The US military apparently knew it floated over the entire Pacific Ocean and then Canada before getting here. But they did nothing? There is something amiss.
 
They have spotted some in Latin America now. They must be all over the place. Rather than shoot it down they should bring it down so they can study it. If someone doesn't back China down we will be at war with them sooner than later.

The US is apparently more concerned about the protecting the border integrity of Ukraine than its own.

Cheaper and stay on station longer and harder to predict observation windows. Yes, we use them too. Ryan Macbeth on YouTube has some great content on this. TLDR this is laughable compared to TikTok

Presumably it is being controlled by someone in China and is not just floating around aimlessly. Have to believe that the US military would have the ability to jam or take over the balloon and bring it down. Some unknown explanation for why this isn't happening. We are supposed to believe it floated across the Pacific, Alaska, Canada, and entered the US without anyone doing anything? Strange. The object is visible from the ground. So both the Chinese and American authorities knew it would be seen.
 
Oh thank goodness. Our honor was so tarnished by a balloon. Our dignity is restored!
 
An F-22 to shoot down a balloon? Probably cost us $5 million. Frank Luke is laughing somewhere.
 
They let the thing cross the Pacific Ocean into Alaska but then wait until it transverses the entire US to shoot it down over the Atlantic? Wow. The decision makers at the highest levels are really on top of things.
 
I understand it was not shoot down over the USA, image if it resulted it someone being killed or injured on the ground, you would hear no end to the dramas that would cause. Right decision to shoot it down, just waited until it didn't cause innocents to be hurt.
 
They should have took it out while it was in the Pacific just as soon as it hit our airspace.

US air defenses have never been as great as the government and military like you to believe, i remember when RAF Vulcans 'Nuked' the US in exercises - TWICE. Impossible to defend against, countries/coast too big. This is a nothing story, no information that could not have been picked up via satelites, plus it does make me smile when there is uproar because 'it is America' as if you should get some special treatment when for decades starting with spy planes such as the U2 and the SR71 the US has been doing the same, pity we cannot ask Gary Powers. Same in the UK when the Russians send occasionally a Bear Bomber of a Backfire down the North Sea or off the Irish coast and the RAF intercept them. People at work always asked me as I was in the Royal Marines as if i knew. All i tell them, is they are just pushing boundries and if the Russians wanted to nuke us those bombers could be off the coast of Denmark and fire at us and we could do nothing about it. I did hear from a pilot when we had Tornados [great aircraft] intercepting them that the Russian crew used to hold up email addresses so they could contact each other and when they did, through secure channels, all the Russian crew wanted were copies of the photos the RAF pilots took and were will to swot some they had.

Irish Coast - the UK has provided this cover for decades, as i once heard someone from the Irish airforce say their whole airforce is basically like when you were a kid and you had those balsa wood aircraft which were powered by an elastic band that you wound up. I remember there was uproar when a RAF Nimrod was flying over the West of ireland, think it was the 1990s, and landed at a commercial airport in the West of Ireland, the anti British press and politians there were having a right old time. Until it was later explained they were helping in the search for Irish fishermen whos boat had gone down about 200 miles off the Irish West Coast and it was easier just to land and refuel then get a RAF tanker to do an inflight refueling run. They found the fishermen and they were fine.

What i am trying to say is just wait and see what has happened, but truth seems to be in big supply in the US, you have too many politicians who all have their own 'truth'. It happened under the Trump tenue as well. Maybe it was looking in politicians house, as that seems to be where all the secrets are kept.........
