I think K and C are forcing us to make choices. I ceratinly cannot buy everything. So unfortunatley for the FJ's as I don't already have a Crete display or collection they will have to fall by the wayside for the moment.

Damian

Same here Damian.
The FJ's, Heydrich and Gestapo Arrest were going to be my next big thing - until I saw the LRDG stuff. There's simply no way I can pass up on expanding my small 8th Army collection. Also means domestic disharmony when I tell Little Boss that no, she's not getting her regular fix of SofHK for the foreseeable....... Will probably still get her the Kubelwaggon - might result in me being fed over the coming few weeks. :)

It is difficult. I am ashamed to admit it but I do collect teh LAH stuff so I have to make a plan for the Truck. I already own soem of teh FJ's form before. These current FJ's cannot be used in the desert or Normandy so I suppose that rules them out. I think there may be some winter stuff before the end of the year as well so who knows. It is best to wait a few months before making any decisions

Yes i am sure there is more 'Bulge' stuff to come Novemberish.

;)Hh. Whats a little less food? It's good for the waiste line keep you fit and all that!
I for one will be pushing the Bulge stuff even further to the back burner to aquire the new 8th army stuff!!! Oh Well....sigh!!!

I have pre ordered all the new eighth army stuff ,so for me it means the
fj,s will have to wait.
I had planned on getting the french 75 mm but I will also hold of on entering that range, and look at selling out of the few napoleonic Kand C figures I have [I prefer gloss for these anyway].
Its as much about space as money , but I realy like all the choice weve got currently .

Harry,

When you tell the Big Boss she's not getting her fix, you'll be getting bupkis* yourself!

Gentlemen

The really scary thing - we are only in August !

There are more and more coming in the next few months as K&C builds towards the Christmas Holiday. You still have more wonderful things coming to market in weeks from now.

I believe 2007 will go down in the Toy Soldier History Books as

KING & COUNTRY EMPIRES STIKES BACK !! :D

Hi Guys:

My name is Gil, and although I have not participated din the exchanges, I read your postings avidly. What brought me to participate this time is the topic of "choices". Up until three days ago I was the happiest man in the world. I had just finished my North African diorama. After spending a lot of money on diorama accessories to put together an oasis battle scene, I was getting ready to catch up with some of the stuff that KC had put out recently. I was particularly interested in the motorcycles (Normandy, LAH and FJ). But now my whole plan has tumbled down. I have to get the new EA sets and the new AK . Probably like many other of our fellow collectors, I spent the last couple of days doing a little accounting, prioritizing and the reprioritizing the personal importance of the sets. I have been collecting since 1999. I fell in love with K&C the first time I passed by Gideon's old store in the village and saw the displays. As I began collecting I decided to concentrate on the WS line and some of the British sets. For the first couple of years I was able to acquire most of what I "needed" and even bought a couple of sets from other lines that I was not specifically collecting (LAH and the whole FJ). But as the pace of releases accelerated, it became impossible to keep up, so I decided to quit collecting. Of course that did not last (amazing, I was able to quit smoking cold turkey but not K&C); when the AK came out, I could not resist since this is one of my favorite theaters of WW2. I was doing fine with the line. I am still missing a few of the EA sets, but, with the exception of the Matilda, it has been mostly by choice. And now this! And I had not even thought about Christmas! What's in the works? Is the Storch coming out? Free French? Egyptian troops? A Tunisian version of the Tiger? An AK 88?
If things continue like this, I am going to need an intervention!

Welcome Gil,

I have also been a long time friend and customer of Gideon and his father John of classic toys. I miss their store. I have been collecting K&C since late 1993, and you are right, it is addictive.

Sounds like a WIN-WIN-WIN situation- quit smoking, kept up a fantastic hobby and are now part of the FROG!!

Welcome aboard

You know Damian- Something you said to me via PM a month or so ago really hit home- this is a fun hobby and you can walk away from it and come back. I really learned something from that. I was buying like a maniac this year and was overdoing it. i was freaking out that all the neat stuff I wanted was going to be retired. Now, I have stepped back, revamped and asked myself- "What do I really want" and started from there. I think everyone that jumps in needs to ask themselves the following questions, and I think, in this order:

1.) Where am I going to put all this crap??- If you cannot answer that question, you probably shouldn't be buying it. Troops are meant to be deployed- if you are buying figures and they just stay in their boxes then, maybe, you just spent $50+ on a box with lead inside of it.

2.) What periods am I REALLY interested in??- I was going to jump all over the AK/EA lines and the FOB stuff but then said- why?? I don't know too much about them so why do them?? I am not interested too much in aircraft so why buy the warbirds- I passed on them the first go round, I can do it again. I passed on the crusaders simply because I am not interested in that period of Middle Ages history. I am not a fan of 19th century stuff so that nixes the ACW and Nap stuff. I am interested in WW1 but the current offerings aren't what I am looking for (though I am waiting with baited breath for the 1916-18 figures).

That has really helped me focus on my WW2 SS and Dday lines, Bulge and Pacific figures. I also can now jump into AWI and the Egyptians too. (Just got the sphinxes tonight!!):D

3.) What can I realistically expect to spend- be honest here. I really appreciate these dispatches and I do thank KC management for distributing those to us. I can now look at the new stuff but use the "Retired" sections for helping me decide what to buy. With the internet being so prevalent in the hobby, finding retired pieces isn't that hard. If you are into the big lines like WW2, chances are pretty good the piece that is retired and hard to find will come back around.

I really really like where my collection is heading and pretty much followed those three rules above to solve my "choices" dilemma.

I really think that one has to start to focus and just pursue one area of collecting. A few years ago it was possible to simply collect all K and C stuff but at the current rate that is impossible. That is hy the FJ's are just not on the cards for me. I alos think that D Day is over for me as I have enough stuff. I am going to wait until the end of the year so that I have some idea of what is comming out before deciding. I think I will focus on LRDG and Arnhem but lets see what is on offer first.

Well personally I don't think it's necessary to choose between the extremes of buying all the sets in a particular line or not collecting it all.

What I do generally is buy only the individual figures that really appeal to me. If necessary I buy from the loose figure dealers if I don't like all the figures in the four-piece sets. Being discriminating about poses and historical accuracy of the figures helps a lot in narrowing down my choices. ;) I also don't collect many K&C vehicles which saves a lot of room.

I have bought in depth on a few WWII collections (Rangers at Normandy, Eastern Front Winter SS, late war SS for Berlin) because I want to set up a few medium-sized dioramas, but otherwise I just pick and choose what I like. So for example I've got five Crusaders and one or two Napoleonics. They look fine clustered together on the shelf by themselves.

So from the FJ line, I'm only going to buy FJ003 and 007 in order to depict a small scene of a drop canister being opened and four freshly dropped FJs clustered around it awaiting their weapons. I'm going to utilize the pak-37 from FJ007 by hopefully hooking it up behind my winter kettenkrad for my Kharkov '43 scene.

Using this selective "mini-scene" method I can get a lot of variety in my collection at minimum cost and space. On the other hand I won't be able to set up the mega-dioramas that some here can.

So at the end of the day you have to ask yourself: will my collection focus on breadth (a few sets from many lines) or depth (many sets from a few lines)? Only the very rich (and some here might say "addicted") can afford to do both.

Hi Gil welcome to the forum.

To pick up on a point Chris made.If i can't have the product on show i don't think i will buy it.There is no point in my view of having something stay in a box for months on end.I can move things around, add shelves units etc for a long time to come. However i guess ONE DAY space will all be used up and that will be a problem. :(

That's when you invade your neighbors house and take his house as yours for purposes of displaying your toy soldiers. :D:D

A lot cheaper and painless (for you) than trying to go out and secure financing and searching for another place to store your stuff. :D

For me ..it,s quite simple. I only collect germans and selected Amis for the prisoners, and allocate $400 monthly, rotating between AK Winter ss and Lah.Always ensuring that the thrill of collecting never wanes ern...

I try to focus on specific lines, but I keep getting sidetracked ;). I started by trying to stay in the 18th and early 19th centuries using Napoleon as a cutoff point. But the I went into a toy store and they had all the early numbers of the EA series. Well what's a guy to do but help them get rid of old, unwanted toy soldiers:D. And them there's JJDesigns which are great and Dehli Durbar and Manes Marzano "Retreat From Russia" and K&C WW1. I'm so confused  and my wife just smiles and says focus and I say OK and then I zing off on another tangent again:D . But it sure is fun.
