Since 2007 we have saved many items for X-Mas. The opening is always a joy. This year will be JJD Conquest of America. Next year Mongols vs. many enemies from many makers. 2023 is 48 men (plus horses, banners, etc.) from JJD's 1066. 2024 will be at least 9 El Cid Cav....
Never say we don't think ahead!

We will post our Aztecs on this thread this X-Mas. We hope to post pics of X-mases past as well, but that may be tricky.

So, for the interested, these have been our X-Mas Themes:

2007- a ton of Napoleonics
2008- British Empire (mostly Sudan but Zulu & Boxer Wars as well)
2009- Crusades - mostly K&C - we really need to find those pics
2010- WW2 North Africa
2011- East of India & several others: mostly Greeks vs Persians and some Romans &other ancients
2012- D-Day (mostly K&C)
2013- Traditionals & Aztecs (Morgans Miniatures Aztecs plus Tommy Atkins, etc.)
2014- Battle of the Bulge, USA (mostly K&C)
2015- " " ", Germany (K&C)
2016- K&C ECW
2017- JJD Jacobite Rebellion
2018- Ancients again, many FL & TG, Greeks & Romans
2019- K&C Plains Indians (smaller opening)
2020- FF Tavern, FL Nam w/Figarti Chopper, etc. & Western town buildings (small)
2021- AZZZZZZTECS! JJD.

Best Wishes & Hope to Hear from other X-Mas bingers...

Paddy

Check out our Album part 2.
Mexica/Aztecs to follow.
Pat & Paddy

Thanks for the Like; you have some nice albums!
Sorry to take up this much forum space, but it helps our own memory. Things on the forum don't get deleted (unless they are right away!) and we've lost too many pics/lists/etc. to mess around.:redface2:

Anyway, this thread should be for X-Mas presents. Please post yours! Somewhere, anyway.

Best Wishes & Happy Holidays to All!
Happy St. Andrew's Day

Pat/Paddy, you guys have certainly received a lot of Toy Soldiers for Christmas. I can't share any similar experiences as I've never received any TS Xmas presents, I suspect by sons, friends etc feel I have enough already. As for remembering Presents from Christmas Past, I can barely remember what I received last year, let alone what I received several years ago.

However I do recall a bottle of Bourbon from each son last Christmas. I usually purchase most of my Toy Soldiers from July to August each year as my work drops off during July and I like to use that spare time to spend my Tax Refund ^&grin Work is actually pretty quiet now as we've had so much rain lately, and December/January annual leave most Aussies enjoy is fast approaching.

Very kind, as usual. Your family & friends may well think you have one of everything in your collection - most non-collectors seem to think that the bigger collections are a bit oversized.{sm2}

The list is partially for our own record-keeping - it's hard to remember it all for us too!

Enjoy the warm Holiday & post the Bourbon on that thread! Enjoy your gifts and family and reading, too!

Best Wishes to the Land Down Under!

Thanks Pats, I guess it's like most hobbies, seems like a waste of time and money if you're not into it yourself. Personally I get a lot of enjoyment out of my hobbies, especially my Toy Soldiers. When I tell guys each soldier is about the same price as a case of beer I do get a few, 'are you crazy looks' {sm3}

With current La Nina conditions off the Queensland coast, weather forecasters are predicting Stormy and Steamy for Summer, annual rainfall will be about 2 meters in my region {eek3} As usual it will be Seafood for Boxing Day at my place.

And of course Best Festive season to you and yours.

You buy expensive beer. For me, more like two cases of beer.{sm4}

Always a pleasure to converse.
The trick is to be able to afford the beer and the figure every so often...:salute::
Stay dry! (I mean from the rainy season...)

Maybe I should review my comparison, however most of my figures were purchased when TS prices were much lower. That said, Australia is an expensive place to live in, partly because our workers are some of the best paid per capita in the world. An 'average' case of beer now costs AUD $52 in Australia, of which 42% is tax, Federal and State.

However most decent beers are closer to $75 per case and over, and craft beers are becoming more popular. A glass of beer in a pub here is usually over $10. Coffee prices are also high as Aussies prefer better quality products. Starbucks didn't last long in Australia, considered undrinkable by most Aussies. Unlike the US we don't have filtered coffee here in fast food restaurants like MacDonald etc. I have an American neighbour originally from San Diego, he tells me that Corona beer sells for US $1 a can in the US, way less than here sadly.

Good beer is always more expensive... My Uncle helps to make New Glarus so we get some good for free...
So you say over 50 American Bucks for a decent dozen!? You drink well, my friend.
Grandpa used to trade Bourbon and Beer for anything the Brits had, b/c he liked them so much. And they liked him!{sm3}
Dad is a lawyer for a Liquor Union in Chi, so maybe we can get it... Maybe... But probably no discount. The Fed is afraid of Chi. Politics. We live with it, because English-Speaking countries have freedom and greatness...

Not American Bucks, AUD is the international abbreviation for Australian Dollars. And a standard case/carton here is 24 cans or stubbies (glass bottles), you can also get cartons with 30 cans/bottles in the cheaper beers. BTW, I mainly drink the cheaper beers, Coopers Pale Ale is my preference. As for Bourbon, usually Jack Daniels or Jim Beam for me as I usually mix it with Coke, so not much point in me buying more expensive Bourbon.

$75 per case. Wow, that would curb my drinking. I would get almost 2.5-cases of Canadian Moosehead beer (my favorite) for the same money.

Thanks for the like Poppo. Sorry about the blurry photos. Yours are much better, as you are a better artist in gerneral. Dad & I are more appreciative than skilled.
We will have a more complete diorama with most of our JJD Conquest of America figures soon. And more scenery: mostly what you see from JJD and some unrealistic jungle encroughing on the Plaza. As much as we can fit on the table reasonably.

Also - great new paintings. Mexico is a great nation and worthy of some fine military minis!

Best Wishes and Best of the Holiday Season

Sorry if I threw cold, Scroogy water on things with that last post. I would blame puppy stress but she is more Ninja than pup, what with the wall-scaling and quick bite/slash attack; stealth and aptitude in darkness. Or hectic Holidays but they are, sadly, less hectic than usual in terms of meeting-up with family & friends this year. So I blame the Toltecs... - OK maybe I just jet grumpy.
Anyway there should be AZ11 (Green Serpent-Umbella-Reptile Guy), the other Tlaxcalan standards (all 3), 2 more Spaniards and about 2 & 1/2 lower-caste warriors with the Mexica. Will post pics to our album sometime this year...
I hope someone watched and enjoyed those 2 Fall of Civilization vids. Remember them if you want to brush up on the Aztecs' rise & fall.
Best Wishes & Happy New Year
Paddy
