Last year at this time I started a thread on Xmas movies.

Whilst looking through the TV schedule for Christmas day I noted one of the main TV channels had the ideal Christmas movie for the long hot summer period down here. Jaws ! I mean what kind of egg nogg is their programme planner on. Yeah right lets scare all the tourists away from the beaches.

Anyway have yet again watched Love actually !

Do miss the good variety/comedy type shows. For those in Oz I thought best show was the one the Panel guys did several years ago.

Anybody else got inappropriate programmes on or favourite shows.

Merry Xmas to all.

Regards
Brett

Tradition requires every year at this time we watch Chevy Chase in 'Christmas Vacation', still laugh at certain scenes especially involving the bother-in-law Eddie (the ****ters full, merry Christmas). Robin.

Many, many years ago we went and saw 'Santa Claus conquers the Martians'. We may even have won tickets. I believe that it is regularly on the list of the worst movies ever made.

I only ever saw that on Comedy Central's "Mystery Science Theater 3000". I think that was Pia Zadora's first movie. She was the little Martian girl, if I remember correctly.

"A Christmas Story" is a classic, and I remember when it was a cute little movie that no one had ever seen, before the new tradition of airing it for 24 hours on Christmas day.

I like to watch "Scrooge" with Alastair Sim. That is the best rendition of "A Christmas Carol", that I have ever seen.

Up here, we have animated TV specials, too, and the original ones from the 60's are still the best: "A Charlie Brown Christmas", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town", and "The Year Without a Santa Claus", are my favorites.

Prost Weihnachten!

Whenever I hear Pia Zadora's name I think of the legend of her stage performance as Anne Frank. Apparently when the Germans arrived, members of the audience, sick of her rather limited acting skills, yelled out, 'she's in the attic'.

Interesting you mention this movie. Just snapped on the tv and guess what comes on in 5 minutes?^&grin I don't think I'll be tuning in.:wink2: -- Al

I really do believe this is the first Christmas in the last 25 years that The Great Escape is not being showing on UK terrestrial TV............. which is a downright sacrilege.

Heaven knows what Rob's going to watch? but however, I do note Kelly's Heroes is still playing ^&grin

Those are associated more with our commemorative holidays here, like Memorial Day and Veterans' Day. The D-Day anniversary is also a time when the broadcasters show a lot of war movies.

I'd associate "Stalag 17" more with Christmas, though, than "The Great Escape". The actions take place in December 1944.

Prost!

I'm in my fifties and I still look forward to, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Its a Wonderful Life, is also a favorite of mine. The cartoon, The Grinch, is also fun during the holidays. I hadn't seen, Mr. Magoo's Scrooge in years. I'd love to see that again.

Not Christmas without the Great Escape Bob! Can't have your Turkey and stuffing sandwhich until Steve has jumped the barbed wire again!^&grin Just watched 'It's a Wonderful life' again which is a Christmas fave. A more modern fave is 'Elf ' with Will Ferrell , always enjoy that hokum!

As for Kelly's Heroes I will show great restraint and merely say it is a romp and not a War film. How's that for the Christmas spirit:salute::

Currently enjoying watching The Royal Variety Performance Show whilst waiting for family to come around.

Very good show so far with a good musical send up of X factor and Simon Cowell and good comedians.

Already opened a few presents last night and got an interesting egg cup in shape of a plastic tank. Even has a helmet that goes on top of the egg and a template to make soldier shapes.

Hope everybody having a great day.
