The following is a list published by Civil War Era Studies of Gettysburg College. This is a fantastic list and of the ones I've read, they're all fantastic. This is a great resource for those interested in the Civil War.

Top 200 Civil War Books and Articles

A very interesting list that fails to list any of the outstanding battle or campaign studies. Very curious. I'm relatively well read on the military aspects of the ACW, having read probably hundreds of titles, but this 'best' list has me beat. I've read maybe 18 of them and am familiar with several others, but I don't know the vast majority of them. I wonder why almost no military studies were included. -- Al

I agree it's lacking in military studies. I think the trend these days seems to focus on the political socio economic aspects of the War.

I'm currently reading one of the books on the list, Martha Hodes' Mourning Lincoln, an examination of attitudes North and South about his death. Her research is based on several diaries. The book won the Lincoln Prize this year.

Thanks for posting Brad. It caused me to dig out Weigley's A Great Civil War, languishing on a shelf for yrs. Ordered few more titles this weekend that I found intriguing on the list. Chris
