Have been working on a couple of displays for JJD ACW figures. Have yet to place the figures, but most of the two bases are done, so I decided to place the 54th Mass figures on one of the shelves.
These figures will go permanently on a glass shelf.
For the base I used HM backdrop, adapted Britains Cornstalks and highway fences, some trees from Scenic Express and a log house from Barszo which I repainted and then cut in half.
I placed one half in this shelf and the other half in the adjoining display cabinet shelf. Added a door with some scrap basswood. Liked the results. Had planned to use a JJD Saratoga range house(repainted) but it would have taken up too much of the area.

Here what I dod tot he cornstalks from Britains. Didnot like the vegetation, so I grinded down the detail, made it thinner, added texture with railroad ballast. Then painted and added turf and grass railroad material to make it blend with my styrofoam textured base. I placed toothpicks in the holes to make sure they were not covered during the process. Then added the stalks, which are beautiful. I placed a line behind the highway rail fences. also from Britains. These I also grinded the base, and did the same as the corn stalk bases.

Great display!! I love the entire layout. You did a fine job on the scenery, especially the home-made pieces.

For the trees you got from Scenic Express.....did they come with bases or did you have to make your own?

Mark

Thx!
The trees are from various makers. Some come with a small plastic base, resembling roots etc. Those I just glue on the base with crazy glue. Then add some foliage to the soroundings.
Others just come with a center metal rod, those I press intot he styrofoam after placing some white glue or crazy glue, or both!
Others have a removable base, I remove it and put some glue on the bottom and press into the styrofoam.
In the case of evergreens. the usually have a metal wire in the center.

Here what will be my "permanent" 54th display, for now...
Inspired with the Shaw Memorial in front of the State Capitol in Boston. The backdrop in the rear is just while I took these iPhone images, to avoid my own reflection on the image
as the rear of the display cabinet is a mirror. This is a glass shelf.
I will place small image of the memorial on the rear of the cabinet as part of the display.
The minute I saw these figures, it reminded me of the memorial which I visited many times during my younger years in the Boston area, so I always had planned to display them this way.
