There has already been one brief thread about "Tropic Thunder"

I thought it was a pretty funny movie. Not a "classic", I realize, but it referenced a few "classic" war movies. I definitely noticed references to these:

- Saving Private Ryan (slow-mo)
- Platoon (Dafoe-esque raising both arms in air while being gunned down)
- Apocalypse Now (Stiller as thinner Col Kurtz)
- Hamburger Hill (Downey character and "it dont mean nothing")

Did I miss any?

I don't know, I am going to watch it in the next couple of days so I'll be vigilant now that you have warned me.;):D I love the don't mean nothing sequence from HH.

Stiller is very popular this side of the pond but this film really bombed out over here. Only lasted three days at our local mutiplex-the manager a personal friend of mine described it as "so in it was out" the intepretation was lost on me but was enough to save me 15 bucks.

H'mmm well that is not encouraging but since I have it from my Netflix subscription, all I can lose is time (and opportunity to watch something better);):D

Filmcritic.com gave it four out of five stars.

I find their reviews pretty accurate.

Its definitely contains some not so subtle jabs at Hollywood - which I may not always "get", but I definitely enjoyed.

Im not a fan of his, at all, but Tom Cruise does an amazing job. His "conversation" with one of the bad guys is hilarious.

It was okay but there were some odd scenes that I couldnt help but cringe in. I din't want to see this but my family forced me to go!

It has some "crude" moments, but Stiller doesnt believe in too many boundries. Any other war movie references?
