Does anyone use or would consider using coffee granules to create a plowed soil effect on a diorama.

I think it could look good, but am worried about any possible damage to soldiers both in staining and obviously ingraining a smell if ever I did want to sell in the future.

I have tried looking at woodland scenics, model railway stuff etc but it always seems too fine and never looks quite right for the plowed look.

Would be grateful for any tips or suggestions.

Many of my "farm collecting" friends use coffee grounds for soil. I is great for putting furrows in the soild with their ploughs. They do use used grounds and then let them dry out before putting them in their dios. As they have been used I can't say that I have noticed any smell from the grounds.

I haven't heard of any problems using this method.

I have never heard of this use for coffee before and, would never have thought of it. Does anyone have any pics of its use?? Do you have to leave it dry or can you adhere it in anyway (I would imagine it being messy if adhered)

I would have thought first of using plaster or celluclay and then using a glue and adhere soil (real or artificial) to it.

Learn something new everyday!!

My friends use it loose on a board so they can plough it. I supposed you could glue it down with white glue. I have used it and spread it out on a baking sheet to air dry, I suppose it could be dried out in a warm oven for a few hours also.

Some of them also use compost run through a sieve.
