Was just wondering how many of you have a collecting strategy that you stick to and don't deviate.I collect D DAY,Bulge,North Africa and soon to be Arnhem.I work my way through these series collecting as i can,but every now and again i just can't help myself and deviate.I'm interested to know just how many of you have the strength to stick to your plan and how you do it?!.:)

You collect a wide range Ron,how do you decide which range to add to next,or is it just me like me buy?.

Hi Rob,
I suspect that Ron's strategy is similar to mine - there's no strategy. I buy what I like.
My return to Hong Kong's been brought forward. I'll arrive Saturday or Sunday. For various reasons I've had to curtail my shopping list for next Monday, but I've decided on this occasion the following shall be obtained;

2 X AE09 STANDING GUARD
2 X AE10 MARCHING GUARDSMAN
1 X AE28 NUBIAN WITH SPEAR
1 X EA21 SAS CAPTAIN
1 X HK131 WINE SHOP FAÇADE
1 X HK160 STREET SHRINE
1 X HK151 SUCKLING PIG
1 X MK17 CRUSADER WITH HORN
1 X MK20 CRUSADER WITH AXE
1 X AK38 STUG
1 X AK30 PANZER II
1 X AK16 INFANTRY
1 X AK21 INFANTRY
1 X HK129 SIGNWRITER
1 X EA25 SAS JEEP
1 X EA23 LRDG CHEVY
1 X WS85 WINTER WARRIORS
1 X WS86 WINTER WARRIORS
1 X HK130 GUY HOLDING LUCKY SIGN
1 X AE27 EGYPT SLAVE BUYER
1 X HK164 FISH SELLER
1 x AE13 TEMPLE FAÇADE
1 x MK004 CRUSADER WITH SHIELD

As you can see, there's quite a mixture there - and it falls short of the US$2000 I'd budgeted for so some red and green devils might be added to the pot, or even some FOB. Trouble is, weight restrictions on my luggage for the flight from HK up to Dalian. Suppose I could always throw some clothes away....:D:D

Planning on a Mega-Blitz on Naps at the end of December. Really want the Kilties repelling the Big Horses with the Tin-Pottie Riders.

Cheers

My strategy is to buy everything I want as long as I can spend Rob's, Ron's and Harry's money :)

Due to budget and space, the only K&C that I buy is WW2 ETO stuff. I look at certain scenes that I want to create and TRY to stay on "theme". For instance I really liked the K&C diorama from one of their brochures that showed as "Bastogne" setting with vehicles, figures and buildings. That inspired me for one of the scenes I want to set up when I get a bigger display case. K&C has been created with an "artist's eye" that really lends itself to creating vignettes, but the bloody truth is that I can't afford all of the K&C I want and still afford the books that allow me to nitpick Andy's stuff!

I have been tryng to finish off the AK's to bring me up to date and a few more BBG's as well. I guess - I trying to do some thing for each range that i collect in a round-robin fashion - each month picking up something for a couple of ranges.

John Jenkins has really slowed me down a bit with my K&C spending over the past few months.

I just got an American Express Bill with some BIG bills that I forgot that were coming from my lovely Wedding    - so I am going to sit on the sidelines for a while on anymore new accusitions.

Its is hard to not to jump on buying new figures when they come out  - but, you do have to pace yourself on what to buy when.

Now Peter i'm thinking it won't make it to Brad will it!.Tell you what i'll send you the cheque and you send me that there Priest you got on ebay!:D

If you can't trust a man of the cloth, what is the world coming to? Plus, I know his wife pretty well. I'm sure he doesn't want to make her cross

Rob -

I won't send you a Priest, but perhaps one of these days I'll be sending a pastor to the UK and IWM....

My strategy is very simple.
Advance purchases as long as there is money in the wallet.
When the money goes...RETREAT!
O.C.
P.S. Mommy wont' let me use my credit cards.

My strategy is very simple - I stick to two ranges, LAH and Waffen SS - I buy pieces as they are retired and any other bits and bobs as and when I can afford them - I look on with envy at the sort of shopping lists posted by some of you guys, reading and weeping at one and the same time - :(

I don't really collect lines . I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to historical accuracy, and don't let a few historical inaccuracies get in the way of a good fight!. I just collect anything WW11 that I think can fit into a Stalingrad scene of poorly equipped german summer troops with their winter clothed reinforcements fighting on a slightly cold day against the russians or the russians and americans meeting up somewhere in the middle of germany together and having it out with the last remnants of the 3rd reich.(did that happen anywhere?) or all the different lines of germans have fallen back to berlin for the last days! (afrika korp would be streching it a bit though) WWII all the way

I utilize the "KISS" strategy-Keep It Simple Stupid. Battle of the Bulge/Ardennes Campaign & RAF/USAAF/Luftwaffe aircraft that apply to that time period. Once in a while I find/make something "fit in" but usually end up selling/trading it for a proper winterized version or better suited version as it becomes available! Of course, there is always that unusual and or unique piece that I just HAVE TO HAVE-I am thinking of that Arnhem gent with the umbrella as it brings back great memories!

I used to be a completist but two things stop that now. Running low on space and the $1000+ worth of new products each month. :(

Don't start collecting anything and then you won't be addicted..........:)

The words 'Horse, bolted, stable door' spring to mind Wellington! :)

I think my problem is that i am deep down a completist and want everything from all the ranges i collect. There is also frustration in trying to keep up.I guess sooner or later i'm going to have to accept the words of my wonderful wife when she tells me i can't possibly get everything. When you sit and open out the K&C price list you realise just how much stuff there is to choose from and what a monumental collecting challenge is there in front of you.I think another problem is the sheer quality of the product.I can honestly say there are hardly any products in the whole WW2 range that i don't like(except LAH).

Its unfair to expect a grown man of eight years old to choose just three or four ranges!.

Cheers Rob,

The plan depends upon the range. The Napoleonic range, and the Crusades are far too big and would take up way too much room, so I only buy the sets I really like. The Bulge Germans I buy to fit the dio I have, so I've bought most of them, but I'm skipping the ski troops. WWI, D-Day, and AK ranges I'm also creating a dio's for, so I buy only those sets to go with the dio. The Arnhem range (and the Crimea so far) will probably be the only complete ranges I buy. And I stick to this plan more for reasons of space and finance. I have to admit that I have moments when I can't stop myself, especially at a show. But then, lifes no fun if you don't cheat a little. :D
