Hi Guys,
As mentioned in a K&C thread the Queensland Museum is having an exhibition called Collectomania and I took a few photos so you can see what some other people collect.

The photos show :

Snowglobes
The facade from an old Theatre
Diecast cars
Surfboards
Kitchen whisks
Washing machines
Padlocks
Beer cans
Snoopy items
Fire Dept related items
Pineapple related items
Akubra hats
TV's
Lawnmowers
One display looked to relate to a particular breed of dog.

The Exhibition was not compltely set up when I took these photos so may get some more at the Opening Function.

I did not take a close up but one of the items in the Snowglobe display was a bit of a surprise. On the 2nd shelf from the bottom towards the right in my photo there is a cube which was not a snow globe. Inside was a cats head. Not only that the face is fierce looking. It is positioned at childrens height and personally I thought it not a suitable item particularly at kids height. Other parts of the Museum have plenty of things in jars but this seemed out of place.

The facade from an old Theatre is apparently controversial as there was a campaign to save it as a heritage item. However the workers were told to cut it into pieces and somebody has then stuck these together.

I did not see the fingernail collection that one person has contributed to the Exhibition (apparently his own).

Another one I saw was Licence plates and a trcator had not yet arrived.

What I did not see was stamps, coins or sporting memorabilia.

Photos have been sent to Jack and Tom to upload so thanks to them in advance.

Based on the other 'collections' the marching SS seem positively mainstream!

If I had to choose from amongst the collection subjects shown I would probably go with Snoopy ! After all he did fight the Red Baron so there is a historical aspect.

The washing machine guy has a 2 car garage full of them.

Here's some more pic's, sorry im late to the party!

I saw a collection of glass eyeballs at one of the local antique stores in Gettysburg. Always wondered who would buy those.

I'm shocked at some of the prices that collectibles are bringing. I make a fairly decent living, but in almost every collectible market I see prices range from about twice to four times as much as I would ever consider paying. Went to an AHL hockey game recently where they auctioned off the uniforms after the game. That's AHL and not NHL. The prices started at about $1K and went as high as $4K. Just from those in attendance at the game.
