According to their ad in the latest issue (320)of Wargames Illustrated the latest addition to the Collectors Battlefield Wargame range is Operation MARKET GARDEN. The range comprises 30 Brit paras (some in helmets, some in berets). The opposition consists of a Tiger I and a Jagdpanther (both based on CS 1/30 sale models) in 9th SSPanzer Hohenstaufen insignia. For infantry, Waffen SS models from the Battle of Carentan range are recommended.A Tiger and a Jagdpanther - if that does n't attract the punters, nothing will!

That's good to hear. I wonder whether some more recon vehicles might come too - like a 250 of some sort? I wonder what was on the strength of 9th and 10th SS at this time? They were refitting but I'm not sure how far that'd gone?

Actually neither division had very much in the way of armour at all. Just before MARKET GARDEN began the 9th had been oedered to hand over all its surviving equipment to the 10th. The personnel would return to Germany to rebuild the division (and were therefore looking forward to the prospect of leave)! The 10th was to remain in position. It appears that the 10th had some Mk IVs and JgPz IVs. It never got its Panther battalion until Operation Nordwind in 1945. The only armour the 9th had were the half-tracks it had in its Recce battalion (of which, many were lost in Haupsturmfuhrer Graebner's ill-advised attack across Arnhem bridge). There were some Tigers at Arnhem but they were Heer not Waffen SS. As for Jagdpanthers, none were at Arnhem but a couple were prominent in blocking Hell's Highway on 24th Sept. These vehicles were from Sch Pz Jg Abt 559 (Heer).

I think the Tigers at Arnhem were several brand new Porsche turret Tiger II of S.Pz.Abt. 506 which was a Wehrmact Heer unit rushed by rail to the area. It was the first unit to use King tigers.

Re: Collectors Battlefield - MARKET GARDENerman

King Tigers had been used in Normandy by SPz Abt 503. At Arnhem two companies of SPz Abt 506 supported the 10th SS in Elst, the third comapny the 9th SS in Oosterbeek.

You're right. 506th wasn't the first to use Tiger II. Some were used at Minsk in May, 1944 and then in July 1944 at Sundormierz Poland. The first western use was July/Aug. 1944 in Normandy and 4th at Arnhem in September.

I think this was on the cards as Brian looked at what they released. I have recently got these releases and they are really very good. Nice detail and a good price. something different to the 1/30/1/28th hobby

There were actually two Tiger 1's from tiger Abt 504. There are photo's of them in After the Battle's outstanding two volume set.

I am really enjoying the pieces That I have bought, Its great. I do hope that Collectors Battlefield, will do Romans after WWII. Its fun to think what a century of legionnaires against Carthagians with elephants will look like. :)

I do love the 28mm. Have not delved into these as I am too heavily invested in ww2 54mm. Market garden being the weak link. My airborne is almost all Conte plastics, some metals, conversions of Airfix Para into gunners for my 2 Tamiya 6LB AT guns. Germans, Not a problem there.British are weak simply for lack of more 54mm kits. 28mm Market Garden is tempting. Warlord and other 28mm makers have castings in metal and plastic sets to cover the British.Having pre painted CS on hand as well, Might be more than I can stand. Snake eyes on the discipline roll. Here's some OLD 28mm Punic shots , with elephants.

The Tiger I were from s.Pz.Kompanie Hummel formed from training tanks at Paderborn. The confusion about 504 may be because Hummel had been a 1CO of S.Pz.Abt. 504 in Sicily, was wounded and returned to service at Paderborn. While there, he met up with other former tankers from 504 and they formed the core of s.Pz.Kompanie Hummel.

At last! Someone in the UK who has got some of this range. Can I ask you your source - UK or US? I'm hoping some may be around at the Toy Soldier show in London on the 7th.

Apologies for the delay. Bought by my wife's family who were at a show that it was on sale at. It was then posted to me. It is IMO well worth getting the pics don't do the detail justice. There are 60mm sets that don't have the detail this stuff has. It really is something I can see myself moving into more and more

Mitch; I have a collection of Corgi 1/50 scale armor including the only British Comet diecast model done to date, would they look OK with these TCS AFV's? Corgi did some really nice British and Russian armor. The T34 and T34-85 are excellent; as good as any in 1/30 scale IMHO. Regards

Thanks for your response. Impressed by your endorsement of this range - think I will start collecting these - they'll certainly take up less room than their 60mm brothers!

C'mon please, a preview, lets see what we are going to buy next.:smile2:
