For the first time in 4 years, we had the Toy Soldier Collector dinner in Sydney last night. It’s been fantastic to see Andy Neilson again and welcome all of our customers at this event. We all know Covid has had a massive effect on everything, but it was great to see the number of attendees almost at the same level our last dinner in 2019.
The food and wine were great, everyone had a good time catching up with other collectors they hadn’t seen in years and Andy made sure to have plenty of time for everyone. He gave us a bit of an insight of how Covid and the Hong Kong protests had affected K&C, plans for the future and upcoming releases, and as usual the Q&A with customers.
Andy has also spent a lot of time with me in the new store this week, discussing ideas, getting feedback on recent releases and talking about the business and toy soldiers in general. We both feel that during this trip, we covered more ideas than ever before, and that says a lot!
It’s fantastic to see him take the time and effort (as well as the expense) of doing this on an annual base (not considering the recent hiatus) we can’t thank him enough for this.
As far as upcoming releases are concerned, there’s a lot of fantastic stuff in the pipeline:
· M48 Patton, the last tank to be made in polystone.
· Kursk and Afrikakorps versions of the Tiger, fully in metal, with moveable track, wheels and suspension, with supporting infantry models to go with them and enable you to create a fantastic diorama
· Vietnam Hueys in 4 versions (USMC, Casevac, Air Cav as well as an Australian variant)
· A coffee-table book showcasing the many dioramas made by Gordon (a lot of us are really looking forward to this!)
· Possibilities in 8[SUP]th[/SUP] Army for British, Australian and Indian additions, revisiting Dad’s Army and a few other movie/series related figures
· And a few ideas we discussed and both are really excited about but can’t say anything on yet.
