Yesterday was a nice fall like day for football. I enjoy the excitement of the game. I no longer get season tickets but go to some games. This is the opening game of Michigan State vs. Western Michigan University. The season is starting off better with a 38-14 MSU win.:)

A few pics to get the fall schedule under way.

Tailgate before game my son and daughter

Following the Band to the stadium

My grandson was thrilled to march with his favorite guys-- MSU Basketball team.
MSU Field. Sparty the mascot on way to stadium. GO STATE!

Sparty the MSU mascot on way to the Stadium. My daughter went to the 1988 Rose Bowl with State's marching band. This was my grandson's first time to a game at the stadium.

I think its been a year or two since I've been to a game. Do they still get on the the PA and reference quotes from the movie "300".

Very nice John. These are wonderful traditions. I follow the US college games quite a bit. Saw the Wolverines and the Irish yesterday.

Got a rooting problem for today's Md. vs. Navy game. They are next door neighbors. Both my father and I graduated from UMd. My father was in the Navy during WW2 and Navy was the first football team I rooted for as my father and I used to watch Navy football back when Roger the Dodger played. Have followed Navy ever since. But I went to Md. What to do? May flip a coin at game time but I suspect I will pull for Navy. Don't care much for Friedgen and the way UMd. operates. I guess I just like to root for Navy, regardless of whom they play. -- Al

My son's school, Lebanon Valley College, got off to a bad start, losing to Gettysburg 42-28. They spotted them 21 points in the opening quarter and they couldn't make it all the way back. He plays clarinet in the Marching Band and I will try to get some photos on later. LVC was 9-2 last year so I guess better things were expected.

Well, the Nebraska Cornhuskers got off to a good start. OK, Western Kentucky is on a huge streak of losses, but the Huskers are starting a new QB.

GO BIG RED!

Yes, they broadcast Spartan trivia on their jumbo tron. They showed clips of the "300". Also, videos, instant repays etc. J

This thread looks like it might have legs. The idea of other members posting about their favoured teams, be they high school or college is interesting.

I suspct that Canadian university football is less intense. But we do play and we do tailgate. Montreal has four universities and three university football teams.

The University of Montreal has the Carabins (rifles), McGill University has the Redmen, and Concordia University has the Singers.

That is a good idea Russell. I would like to view pics of different games and stadiums. I don't like TV at halftime when they interview some former jock and never show the College's bands marching or halftime show. I think the bands should get some time for all their work and practice. John

Sorry Sparty...there's a Cat on the loose in your conference!

Yes, I am probably the lone Northwestern fan on the forum...we're a rare breed.

In case you missed it, NU beat Vandy on Saturday in a game pitting #12 against #17 (though the rankings are the US News & World Report Academic Rankings).

Lancer, SHAME ON YOU! What year at UMD? I graduated in '74 (hence my signature). My brother-in-law is Naval Academy grad, '78. He called me after the game. :D Ralph needs to go. Football has been in a downward spiral for several years and he's lost control of the program.

I am properly ashamed. Can't root against Navy because of afore mentioned reasons. Been anti-Ralph for quite a while as I don't think he really was as good as his early record indicated. I graduated in '76 (should have been '75, but I was a really bad student:rolleyes:). Heck, we may have been in some of the same classes. Majored in History, minored in English. Used to go to UMd. football games as a youngster and was in the stands when Md. broke it's 3 year losing streak back when Ward was coach. Also saw Csonka with Syracuse gain over 200 yards at Byrd. Lots of memories when Lefty ran the B-ball program. -- Al

Ralph was great for about 4 yrs. Thought he was gonna build a dynasty. :( I arrived second yr of Lefty's era. Would love to go to the Comcast Center some day. I sat thru some pretty bad Penn State football games.

Cheers
