Gentle Friends,
As most of you know, I live in Kansas. I live within an hours drive of the Capital of the state, Topeka. Located in Topeka is a facility known as the Air Combat Museum. For years, I have wanted to visit this facility, but have never found the time to do so,....until recently. When I made the trip to visit the museum, I was impressed with much of what I saw there and I thought you might wish to more about the museum.
The Museum is located on Forbes Field off Highway 75 just south of Topeka. It is funded through private donations and revenue raised through the sale of items in the gift shop. It is totally staffed by unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to the preservation of combat aircraft. It is the volunteers who run the facility, who restore the planes, and who run the gift shop.
The planes are housed in two large hangers with a few aircraft located outside. Just to give you a little taste of what I saw there, I am posting a few pictures. Please realize there are many more aircraft located in this museum than the ones I will be showing you. But, for now, enjoy the Pictures.
Below, you should see pictures of three aircraft. They are:
First Picture: 1914 Taube 52% Scale replica.
Second Picture: Nieuport 27 7/8 scale replica.
Third Picture: A different angle of the Nieuport 27 7/8 scale replica.
A few more pictures will follow this post.
Warmest personal regards,
Pat
