Coming Soon From Barzso Playsets (1 Viewer)

jim, saw the battlewagon in the first photo, great stuff. one of my favorite toys of the 50's was the ideal 'phantom raider'. i picked one up, mint in the box a few years ago. i showed it to my 2 grown daughter, ran it on the floor and they were both amazed. 'we didnt know they had computer run toys in the 50's' they both said. then i took off the deck, showed them the simple motor with the gear structures, the bell, etc. and they were even more amazed. worst mistake i ever made was reselling last year. remco, ideal, marx, deluxe reading all classic toy companies of the 50's. thanks for the photo, andy

With all the great stuff being produced today - it's easy to forget the "guys" who got us started in this hobby in the first place - Marx, Ideal, Remco, Deluxe Reading, Auburn, even MPC, Lido etc.

That Atomic Cannon is cool! I hate to ask but I will. Could you post a close up of it? I'll show you my Major Matt Mason Moon Crawler in darn near mint condition too! Original box even.;)

These have been coming off the mold very consistently. Ron tries to be careful about putting good quality out. I've seen him reject boxes of stuff, due to poor quality. And of course, he stands by his money back guarantee, if something slips thru that doesn't meet with your approval. I have the castle from the Chicago display and it looks just as good as it did there. Of course, I have some much older pieces, too and have not experienced any problems.

We're going to display the castle at Indy - and will include the breached wall and lots of trees for Sherwood Forest. If everything goes well - we may have another new piece or two to display there.

Thx for your comments and question!

Jim

Jim,
2 questions:
1: Is the scale such that these castles would be too small for K&C figs.?
2: Is there any thought of doing this line in Tans and Browns to simulate a Middle eastern fortification?

Sure KV I'll post some photos of the Atomic Cannon - later today. I'll start a new thread - maybe Vintage Toy Soldiers and Vehicles... or some something like that. I can drop some Battlewagon photos in there too. Would be glad to see your Matt Mason stuff

Hi Ray - I'll try to answer both of your questions as best I can...

1. I personally think the castle would work great with the K&C figures. I believe Andy (of K&C) even mentioned this to Ron Barzso at the Chicago Show last year. Having said that the comparative scale of the castle is on the small side compared to real castles. We did that purposely trying to balance reality with use-ability and I believe we were successful in that effort... Roughly - here are some of the dimensions of Barzso's castle using 2.25" = 6':

Wall height (to top of crenelations): 22.6'
Standard tower height (to top of crenelations): 32.2'
Height of tower with extension: 40.67'
Tower Diameter (at top): 17.3'
Rampart width (walkway): 6'
Keep height (to top of crenelations): 52'

As it is the castle in real measurements is large... the walls are 8.5" tall, Tower 12.125" tall, w/extension 15.25" tall, Tower dia 6.5", Keep to highest point 19.5" . The castle layout I posted photos of covers roughly a 4.5' X 6.5' area.

Here are a couple of photos showing figure sizes.. the first photo shows a Barzso Norman (approx 60mm), and a recast Marx 54mm Robin Hood Merry Man. The figures in the second photo are from left to right: Barzso Norman, Marx recast 60mm knight, Marx recast 54mm Robin Hood, and Conte Robin Hood (The King's Deer).

Question 2: Ron had a few walls painted in a tan color to see what they would look like. We both think it's great. I don't know of any plans to have a few painted in tan, but if the interest is there I think it would be a possibility.. Ron is on vacation now - but I'll ask him when he gets back.. Hope all this has helped.

Thx,

jim

Warbuff had a K& C LRDG desert diorama with a Barzo building at Chicago in the Treefrog room that looked absolutely fabulous. It might have been this building from the Shores of Tripoli range. I'm not sure they ever sold it and Treefrog may still have it.

That's very cool Brad, think I'm going to order one.
