Some facts and figures about this really beautiful plane
1st test flight took place on the 6th Dec 1944.In Jan 1945 about 45 planes were delivered to the Luftwaffe for evaluation( At the Rechlin base). In Feb 1945 Jagdgeschwader 1 Oesau received its first deliveries. Because of the rapid advances of both Russian and Allied troops they had to change bases several times .1st combat between the He 162 and the allied airforce took place mid april 1945. The Henkel shot down a British plane but on its turn it was shot down on approach to land by a Hawker Tempest. By the end of the war a total of 120 He 162s were delivered to the Luftwaffe, a further 200 completed and awaiting collection. Several hundreds partly finished in several factories .

Very interesting, again something different from TG. Really highlights little known aspects of German weapons in the pipeline right up to wars end. A must for anyone that collects aircraft. Robin.
