Cheers,
D.

Man... that doesn't look as good as it did on my master copy.

The cut and paste must have messed it up...

Oh well.

Enjoy,
Drum

Geez, talk about posting in your own thread, but I forgot something else and the edit function has expired or something.

Anyway, I also counted each figure in the collection;

Grand total;
1031 Humanoids
160 Horses
12 Artillery pieces
14 Dogs and cats
2 Trees
2 street lamps
1 Storehouse
1 Snowman
Misc. walls and fences.

That is the total figures of all the sets in the collection except the Officers and men sets as we do not have any of those sets.

Cheers,
Drum

Okay, now that you have listed the sets, show us the pictures :) Looking forward to the catalog. I know it is a ton of work. Let me know if you ever need help or resources.

DK

I had a feeling someone would say that!

:p

So far, I have only managed to photograph the Town and Around series, having taken maybe 800-1000 pics of just those 77 sets. (thank god for digital:rolleyes:)

Much as I am pleased to be switching my attention to the military sets, it will take me some time and probably several thousand pics before I will even be close to done.

Why did I think this project was going to be so easy!

Anyway...

Off to the studio!

D

Hi Drum,

I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you posting the comprehensive list of Imperial sets. It is a very useful item for me. I also recognize the huge amount of time and work it took to compile the list. Thank you so much for all your efforts!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Well, thanks for the kudos, but that is the result of a bit of group effort.

That said, I just realized two huge sets that I forgot to include on the list!

The Heirloom Series (HS1 & HS2) containing 80 additional figures. How I forgot it, I can't imagine.

Anyway, that would seem to bring the total figures up to a spooky 1,111...

I took almost 1000 pictures today... downloading them and straightening them all out is going to be most time consuming. I only managed to make it through about 40 sets, give or take a dozen.

My camera is still warm after an hour.

:D

Drum,

Fantastic job! A couple of minor points: Sets Nos. 50 a, b, & c (plus their corresponding officers in sets Nos. 51) actually are refered to as Bengal Cavalry rather than Lancers per their labels. Also, sets No 50 d and 51 d are the 30th Lancers, 1903, not Bengal Lancers, 1882. Go figure??? The Officers and Men sets are x1, x3, x4, and x5. Maybe the lower case "x" was used to diferentiate them from the earlier sets with the same numbers. Sets x4 and x5 crossed. Set x5 is the Sweetheart Couple with Marine Officer, 1900. I am positive that set no. x2, the Marine Color Party was never produced. I read somewhere that fewer than 200 sets of each of the Officers and Men series were produced.

Thanks, Mike
I made the changes to my master list, but I can't seem to figure out how to edit my post here. No biggie.
On the Lancers bit, it's funny, set 50 is called "13th Bengal Lancers" and the figures differ so little that I never bothered to closely examine the remaining boxes, other than to record their regiment numbers.

Some of the other recorded names on my list may also be slightly off. I will tighten them up as I get through the rest of the boxes.

Checking boxes against figures and having finally completed an inventory, I am also not finding a set #91a (17th Lancers Crimea add on) in our collection. Ron Ruddell of London Bridge tells me that it was listed but has not been produced to date.
(This is a special disappointment as I was hoping to build a Crimean cavalry battle diorama shelf)

Does anyone have set #91a? I have emailed Mr. Cowe to confirm Ron's recollection.

Have a great time in Egypt, Mike. Be sure and scout around for any new toy soldier sources while you are there.

Cheers,
D.

Drum,

The software is set up so that you can't change a post after an hour. The only ones who can do that are Shannon, Pete, me and Dave. If you'll tell me what you want changed and the number of the post, I'll take care of it for you.

Drum,

Per your post, here are a few minor changes to your list. Not sure on 50b. I have both 50 and 50a, but now can't remember which one was the blue and which was the tan/khaki. I think 50a is the blue set.

50. 13th Bengal Lancers, 1882 (tan) Egypt/Sudan
50a. 6th Bengal Lancers, 1822 (blue) Egypt/Sudan
50b. 1st Bengal Lancers, ___(yellow)
50c. 4th Bengal Lancers, 1895 (red)
50d. 30th Bengal Lancers, 1903 (green)

Dan

Thanks again.

I went through the boxes and finally found them all.
Here is a list of the labels;

50. 13th Bengal Lancers, 1882
50a. 6th Bengal Cavalry, 1882
50b. 1st Bengal Cavalry, 1882
50c. 4th Bengal Cavalry, 1895
50d. 30th Bengal Lancers, 1903

I am fairly certain that the 13th Bengal Lancers (50) are clad in dark blue tunics and light blue turbans. This set is featured on one of the color postcards from Imperial.

I am also fairly certain that the 30th Lancers (50d) are clad in dark green tunics with black/red turbans.

The others I am not as sure about, color-wise.

This pic of Vandilay's is a bit of a puzzle to me...
attachment.php

The Bengals here are different than I have seen... they have either the tan or yellow tunic, and the same light blue turbans that our 13th Lancers have. They also have the red over blue pinion on their lance which, I thought, was unique to the 13th (set 50).

Thanks for the loan of the pic, van... what Bengal set is that, if you know?

Research continues.... alas, the internet sources I have found regarding Bengal uniforms from these periods does nothing more than confirm that these regiments changed titles and uniforms with some randomness.

Soo.... maybe Mr. Cowe or some of the other Imperial collectors can help sort this out.

D.

Drum,

I thought the blue tunic version was also 50 because of what I saw in an old Imperial catalog. That said, I'm still not sure now. I went back to look at my boxes and I remember my purchase of 50 and 50a many years back. It would be good to get other collectors thoughts. I do have an old dealer catalog that says 50 was the tan/khaki set. My set of 50 has the tan uniforms/tunics and the dark blue turban with red over white pinon on the lance. I'm pretty sure this is actually the tan/khaki set and not the yellow set they did. My 50a has the dark blue uniforms/tunics with light blue turban and red over blue pinon on the lance.

On another note, would someone mind posting a picture of 98, the Zouvaes with officer and bugler. Thanks.

Dan

The box for that set is marked set 50 13th bengal lancers ,[bought on e bay]
The seller mentioned in the listing these where done exclusively
for I shop in [I think he said highland falls] and their was supposed
to be a letter also from imperial about the set which he never
sent me.
These guys are the only bengal lancers I have and the only catalogue
I have shows the dark tunics. I will ask the next time I visit imperial .

Dan, I think you might have those reversed... as I indicated, the only set I am fairly sure of is 50 (notwithstanding what Vandilay has posted) with the dark blue tunics.

I have 50a down as having tan tunics and a black/light blue turban.

Van, that is very interesting about that set you found on ebay. From what I have heard, one of the factors which led to the departure from Imperial of whomever it was that went across the street and started Regal/Soldiers of the World was the fact that this person was willing to do "special order" sets without consulting with the Cowes.

I have heard of an HS-1 set that was done up as a Seaforth Highlanders or maybe Black Watch set for a dealer in NY, much to the intense chagrin of David Cowe. Then, of course, there was the Officers and Men debacle.

Anyway, maybe that departed fella is responsible for your odd set, Van. (not that I think your set is odd...:))

If you can fill in some of the blanks with a visit to the shop (in particular, which tunics go where) I would really appreciate that.

Cheers,
D.

That is one heck of a list! Nice work! Does any one have a Rourkes' Drift Hospital?

That is one heck of a list! Nice work! Does any one have a Rourkes' Drift Hospital?

Imperial made a "storehouse" which we have, but I am not aware that they ever made a hospital building.

Is that on the list? If not, I will be sure to add it.

D.

Drum,

First, thanks for the photo. I can't wait to see your progress on the rest of the sets. Also, I will go with you on the 50 and 50a thing. I must have reversed them.

Dan
