Comprehensive Imperial Set list (2 Viewers)

Dan, I think you might have those reversed... as I indicated, the only set I am fairly sure of is 50 (notwithstanding what Vandilay has posted) with the dark blue tunics.

I have 50a down as having tan tunics and a black/light blue turban.

Van, that is very interesting about that set you found on ebay. From what I have heard, one of the factors which led to the departure from Imperial of whomever it was that went across the street and started Regal/Soldiers of the World was the fact that this person was willing to do "special order" sets without consulting with the Cowes.

I have heard of an HS-1 set that was done up as a Seaforth Highlanders or maybe Black Watch set for a dealer in NY, much to the intense chagrin of David Cowe. Then, of course, there was the Officers and Men debacle.

Anyway, maybe that departed fella is responsible for your odd set, Van. (not that I think your set is odd...:))

If you can fill in some of the blanks with a visit to the shop (in particular, which tunics go where) I would really appreciate that.

Cheers,
D.

I wonder how many other odd sets are kicking around the place ?
what was the story with the officers and men sets i,m not too
familiar with them although I remeber seeing them for sale before
I had started back into collecting.
cheers Rob

Well, the story as I have heard it (partially and from a couple of different stoical sources) is something like this;

This future "renegade" who was about to start "Regal Productions" across the street had begun to take a more active role in dealing with the "stockists" and sculpting figures, etc.. During the course of this period, this person had made an arrangement with a dealer in Virginia to provide unique sets of figures to be sold by a museum gift shop in Norfolk. These sets were to be known as "Officers and Men" and included a modern USN deck crew, a set depicting US Marines in Tripoli and a few "Officer and Sweetheart" sets.

Where the story gets fuzzier is the next part;

These sets were made, in small numbers, and sold to a dealer in Va.. It would appear that this dealer had little or nothing to do with any museum and sold these sets mostly to collectors. There would also appear to be a rumor that this Va. dealer either did not pay for these sets or some other dealer in America reneged on a deal at about the same time, plunging Imperial into a minor financial crisis which, in turn, may have led the "Regal Productions" guy to jump ship and start his own shop.

Needless to say, David Cowe would prefer to not to discuss these Officers and Men sets.

That is the basic framework of the story and, with any luck, more discussion of this will reveal more info and particulars. At this point is basically a rumor to my mind.

When Mike gets back from Egypt, I am sure he will have some input.

Cheers,
D.

Here you go, Dan

Drum,

Bored on a Sunday night. How about a preview of some of your photos, particularly any of the Napoleonic pictures if you've taken them yet. Hope all is well.

Hi Drum

I believe they are gone ,I was over that way visiting my brother
[with a slight de tour to imperial of course] and noticed the shop
was empty [no signage etc].
I mentioned it to Kay and she confirmed they had closed , I didnt
realy press on the hows or whys given the history their.
I havent forgotten to ask about the bengal lancer set numbers but
as David was not in the shop and a little under the weather ,I didnt want to bother him and thought i,d leave it until another day.

cheers Rob
