Hey, if you are a new guy like me and had big trouble trying to figure out how to compress a photo=Go to Photo Pos Pro on a computer search and download the free program. It is safe and has no viruses. But do read each thing you say yes to to avoid any browser or other change items you may not want. When you are done under IMAGE on top hit Resize. I put 800 in the Height window pane and that seems to make all small enough to load on to Treefrog. Hope it helps somebody, Mike

I haven't found any guide lines for photo sizes on here so I have been using 1200x900 with a size of under 150 kb and that seems to work OK. Those numbers are pretty safe for most web forums. The easiest program to use, I find, is Faststone Image editor. Open your picture then go to Quick Resize on the left hand menu, pick your size and click. If you want to check or change the KB, go to Save As in the same menu.click on options and play with the quality slider. It's free and a quite versatile program. If you do it that way, there isn't any reason to upload to Photbucket, Flickr etc. you can go directly from your computer to TSF.

You're right, we don't have the file size listed anywhere, at least, not in the FAQs, not that I could see. I think it's not displayed till you try to attach a file that exceeds the dimensions in pixels, or if you try to upload it to your galleries in your profile. If I'm not mistaken, though, it's 1500 pixels for height.

I use MS Paint to process my photos, because it's loaded free on my machine. I'll use the Crop feature to remove dead space around the image, and then use Resize to set the height in pixels. But I only do that for photos which I plan to upload as files, eg, in our galleries. For display in posts, I use the links generated when I upload my files to Photobucket. If you link to the image, instead of attaching it, you don't have to worry about file size.

Prost!

I found that making the photo about 230KB or less will work. It usually works with putting an 800 in the height. Great information in your note, thanks, Mike

I find windows Paint easy to use without adding more apps and possible virus's to the PC....Paint can reduce large files to Jpegs and with a bit of practice you can reduce and enlarge... within ...reason most pictures.... a..el cheapo method ...sure...but I am getting too old to worry about learning new PC stuff all the time....cheers TomB
