Condolences (1 Viewer)

Also, I what to commend those who were brave enough to actually tackle the gunman. We can only hope we would do the same.

This was a horrible tragedy, regardless of your political standing this is not how we effect change in the United States. Having said that, it is obvious now from all the news reports of the shooter that he was and is a totally disturbed young man. My wife is a Phyc nurse and as the news came in about his behavior, age and statements she pegged him immediatly as a parinoid schizophrenic, he has text book symptoms and in the end the attack has everything to do with his illness and almost nothing to do with politics. He could have just as easily walked into the community college he was kicked out of and done the deed there.

I suspect based on what has been reported so far that this guy will plead insanity. He sounds a bit like John Hinckley who shot Reagan. If so he may end up in a mental institution rather than prison. He does have to prove not just that he is mentally ill but can't distinguish between right and wrong.

I understand that Arizona is tough on insanity pleas - If he is judged guilty but insane , he will be sent to a mental hospital for treatment and if he "improves" will be transfered to prison.
