Condor Legion Panzer 1 Photos (1 Viewer)

I just weighed them on my postal scale and they come to a shade over 5.5 ounces each.

If you want weight with great detail, go with Figarti.

If you flat out amazing detail at a terrific price, and don't care about the weight, go with JJD.

Weight would not concern me nearly as much as fragility which fine detail can often result in.

I agree. That opinion has particular weight.

I guess it is a "must-buy" now. :D

Does this mean your selling off your KC then, as they don't get a mentioned in dispatches :D:D:D

The JJD Panzer I finally arrived. The detail, especially the tracks and the MG handles inside the turret are excellent. The tankette (I refuse to call it a tank) is the right size and has the correct insignia in the proper places. The weathering is excellent - sort of Figarti style.

Comparing it to the much older K&C LAH Panzer I, it of course is much more detailed than the K&C, especially the tracks. In terms of weathering, the only complaint I have, and it is a minor one is that the rear cover plate on the JJ tankette is a lighter shade of grey making it look a little plastic. Perhaps JJ intended that to look like a new add-on piece or replacement piece of armour.

The JJ tankette is not overly light, but much more importantly, it is not flimsy. I have no worries handling it.

The other small difference between the JJ and K&C models are the MGs on the K&C are quite a bit larger than on the JJ model. I suspect K&C oversized the MGs for strength and durability.

Overall, a really excellent model at an affordable price. What is the next AFV JJ?? A Russian T-26, an Italian "Sardine" tankette, or the Panzer I Ausf B?

Excellent review Terry. I have been pushing for a T-26 but John holds his cards closely to his vest :D

Almost forgot. Installing the turret does work as Blackbeard pointed out, by pointing the guns to the side of the tank and engaging the notch. I tried it with the guns pointing to the notch on the right side of the tank and it wouldn't go. I tried pointing the guns to the notch on the left side of the tank and the turret went easily into place and rotated.

Question for owners of the PzKw I. A number of photos have shown the above with what I hope/presume are prototype crew figures. Does the opening hatch enable full size figures to be fitted (like First Legion armor), or would the crew members have to be half-figures (like K & C)?

I will have to take a look tonight. My recollection was that it could be full.

The answer is a definite maybe.

The opening is not big enough to take a figure with a base or one with one leg bent. The Figarti full size 1:32 scale figure from their Tiger tank fits perfectly with feet touching the floor of the Panzer I. If you are planning to use an FL full sized figure with no base, it should be fine as well.

I can't think of any K&C tankers that are full size with straight legs and no base. I hope you are not planning to break the base off of a K&C tanker :D.

But if you did, it should fit as well but stand a bit taller out of the turret.

I'm curious as too what you are planning.

Thanks for the information and taking the trouble. The reason I was asking was trying to determine whether any figures would have the option of being displayed either in or out of the vehicle, providing the same sort of flexibility provided by First Legion's crew figures for their armour range. A number of photos e.g. in the newZaloga book show tankers both in the turrets and others lounging outside - I thought that would open interesting diplay options.

The UK collectors will get their first up close and personal viewing of this superb model this coming Sunday at the Birmingham Toy Soldier Show.

I'm still astounded at how small the Panzer I looks in comparison to later German tanks. It's like a go cart sitting next to a Hummer. Must have been a tight fit for those who operated these tanks.
