Constructing a Replica of the Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter Fighter (1 Viewer)

Very interesting article and quite a dedicated group of people. The article does claim that the Strutter was the first aircraft off an aircraft carrier, which is not strictly accurate. Ship launched aircraft were first done in 1910 and from a moving ship in 1912, quite a while before the Strutter was even built. A Sopwith Pup (a single-seat relative of the Strutter) did accomplish the first landing on a moving ship. -- Al

But then I do seem to remember John Wayne claiming the the U.S. navy invented the aircraft carrier in the 30s ! ^&grin
