Conte Barbarians (1 Viewer)

They are awesome! I finally received mine from Hobby Bunker today (it was a slow trip for some reason). Most of the figures come with two options for display, though some up to four if you use the two shield and weapon options that some have. They're really earthy and the three colours give the opportunity to make a very varied army. I've set them with the TSSD Barbarians and I think most of those work very well with these fabulous Conte figures. Most have flowing cloaks so there's a real sense of movement. The detail with beards and rugged winter clothing is excellent!

There is a second set in the works and that will result in two sets of both Romans and Barbarians. With the variety of poses and weapons it offers the chance to create a very dramatic battle!

I think the 5th set is meant to be a Roman archery set. Whatever he comes up with - I will buy!

Good to hear, i will get them too. You talked me into it. I have always loved Conte figures. The next Barbarian set will double as Vikings and it looks like a really cool shield wall.

I see Conte's Vikings/Barbarians have arrived in the US. Does anyone know if Hobby Bunker will have these as well? I wrote to them but haven't heard back.

I'm sure Matt will have them; I ordered mine direct from Rick and got a good deal on multiple bags - along with more of his Warlord Frisians. I'm a happy camper. The new figures are beautiful - even more finely sculpted than the old "Warlord" guys. I am hoping to get them all out and set them up together for comparison shots as well as just for the fun of it.

They are not as versatile as the last set was - both a plus and a minus - fewer choices of pose, but also less buttembling; again, these guys are beautifully done. As I get older I'm trying to cut back on my buying, but as Michael Corleone said, "Just when I think I'm out - they PULL me back in!"

Hobby Bunker have just posted that they will indeed have the new Vikings, though they are not on hand just yet.

Review - the most recent Barbarians/Vikings set: As per my usual practice I got this in all three colours and will make them up in as many variations as the pieces permit. There are two kneeling shield wall figures that come 2 each, so four altogether. Two others come as already done, including the bonus Kirk Douglas Ragnar - he's great! He fits in quite well with sets 1 - 3 of the Stamford Bridge battle set. The others are a clear 5mil or so bigger. Partly because they have a chunkier base but they are just bulkier in general. All mixed in together they look ok. While I think I remember Conte saying they would be the same colour as those much earlier sets, they are a browner cream. They are also harder plastic, not the soft plastic of Conte's first plastic sets. I will put Kirk/Ragnar on Stamford Bridge and maybe a couple of others.
As Barbarians they really flesh out the first set! There's a lot of implied movement and action backed stances. With the variations, there's almost 60 figures (40ish unique) across the two sets if you have all three colours. I also have TSSD barbarians in there too to make a very impressive army!
It's great to have Kirk/Ragnar but I'd love to also have Ragnar, Bjorn and Floki from the TV series to really ice this cake. Conte's had them done but maybe copyright is more of an issue.
So, another good issue from Conte!
