Whether or not Conte ever returns, and it seems increasingly unlikely, let us not forget the wonderful contribution he made to the toy soldier hobby for over a decade. Much of my early collection was sprinkled liberally with his output.

I enclose a few photos that highlights Richard's work, at times mixed in with other manufactures figures.

Goodness Gary, you solely kept Richard in business {sm4}. Agree there was some nice stuff to be had. The highlights for me were the Roman galley and D-Day church. Fairly sure Conte has headed off into the sunset mores the pity. Great collection. Robin.

When I started collecting I would only collect Conte. He had some fantastic stuff at the time. I got his second viking ship and I collected vikings,Romans,ACW,Roger's Rangers.I started out with the Don Troiani sets.I saw a prototype of a pirate ship he wanted to do but he just couldn't work out the details so it never came to pass.He was ahead of his time and he is missed.

Gary, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I don't have any Conte sets but remember a lot of earlier posts from collectors displaying the amazing figures and diorama pieces in their collections.

Yes I was very keen on the pirate ship but I think this was a stretch for Richard to try to make something that he could put out at a reasonable price for collectors. I have many of his metal sets of figures but only wish I had pushed on and got more of his playsets, if only for the scenic items.

Gary

This was another series I was disappointed to see come to nothing. Robin.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane fellas. Conte did release a lot of great stuff during that period.
I collected a lot of the plastic playsets with my son. Then we sold them to help pay for college.
I wish I would have kept the scenics :(

Great shots Gary, thanks fir sharing. I love Conte figures as well and have a good collection. I might be in the vast majority but I live in hope that Richard will produce again... zi think his plastic Romans are close!
