Here are a few of Fubars Blackcat Russians that I chopped up. They still need some more work on them but I had the camera out to take a few shots of my new man cave in the new house and they were on the desk so I took a few pictures while I had the camera out! These are the first figures I,ve had a chance to do in awhile and the first in the new work station.
like I said there not done yet!, The artillary crews need to get the plumes chopped off and thier shako plates and cartridge box plates converted and I,m not sure how I want to paint up the rest? I might chop of thier plumes also and paint them as line troops or jagers???

Heres the pictures!

And a few of Fubars castings I need to get some paint onto also.

Heres a break down on what I did on a few of these figures! I used parts from a few other figures to do these and some of the parts came from conte civil war figures, cts mexicans,AIP artillary crews, and even a zulu foot. I also used some metal rod and 2 part putty for the ram rods for the artillary guys.
This guy has some new arms from a conte civil war figure. All the parts were added useing 2 part putty and I cutt out holes into the arms and body and packed the putty into the holes to make them more secure and elimenate the need for pins to hold them together.
DSC05918.jpg

This next figure has 2 new arms, one from a TSSD civil war figure and the other is from a conte GI figure. They needed to be worked a bit to look right and I had to cut a cuff line into the plastic arm and add the cuff section with the buttons with 2 part putty.
DSC05920.jpg

This next one has a conte zulu foot cut into to him and some 2 part putty also. I liked the idea but I wasn,t crazy about the results so I tried another this time with A TSSD civil war bare foot figure leg and when I paint him up I,ll add some blood and make him look wounded. Here are both figures.
DSC05922.jpg

DSC05925.jpg

Next is a wounded figure made from conte civil war parts again. Its iron brigade figure being shot and I used his arms and head and just cut the hat off and used some 2 part putty to replace the missing section of head and hair. I also cut off the shako from the russians head and hallowed out the shako a bit and glued it in place to look like its falling of his head.
I also cut the figure from the base and repostioned it back on in a new poistion to look as if he were falling down. I also did the same on a couple of the other figures also.
DSC05928.jpg

Heres another of the wounded conversions. He also has been repoistioned on the base, the arms changed and a metal musket glued on also.
DSC05931.jpg

This next one had to have some extra 2 part putty added to the base to help support it after it was repostioned on the base. The musket was cut from another figure but had to have the extra hand cut of the musket wich took a little bit of carving to do.
DSC05940.jpg

This one was an atempt to make a dead figure but I,m not happy with the way he lays. I might make a 2 part putty base and sink him into it to get him to lay a bit better. He has CTS mexican arms. Still working out the bugs on this guy!
DSC05933.jpg

The artillary crews still need to have plumes removed and the grenadier shako plates changed to artillary ones but heres the run down on them. I used fine metal rod and 2 part putty to make the ram rods and just heated the metal rod and pushed the hot rod through the plastic hands, it melts right though. Then I just added the 2 part putty for the sponge on the ends.

I used arms from CTS mexican artilary sets and AIP artillary sets also for the others and a couple of odd ball spare arms I had kicking around also.

CTS arms added on!

The metal rod ram guys! and arms from the parts box, I believe they are timpo napoleonic arms and dulcup napoleonic parts.

DSC05961.jpg

These last couple of artillary guys are meant to be cannon movers and have arms from conte GIs that had to have cuffs cut into them and 2 part putty cuff links and button sections added onto them.
DSC05955.jpg

DSC05937.jpg

This figure had some arms added from the parts box. The pistol arm is from an AIP officer figure the other arm was from the parts box??? and I cut the hand off and added a sword hand from a CTS mexican and redid the cuffs with 2 part.
DSC05949.jpg

This one is also a AIP pistol arm and a CTS mexican arm. Just a simple conversion but looks pretty cool.

DSC05947.jpg

This next one has some conte parts from civil war figures and a head from thier mexicans with a bandage on his head. I also added a new metal musket also.
DSC05944.jpg

A new carved conte GI arm drilled out and a small piece of wire added as a ramrod. I also added a new metal musket to the figure also.
DSC05942.jpg

A simple arm switch out with new conte civil war arms, again the cuffs have been reworked again.
DSC05935.jpg

The rest of the figures were pretty much just reworking parts from the other figures in the russian set and a couple of the heads were swoped also but these are a few conversion possibillites thinking outside the box. Don,t be afraid to use parts from other figures also, they just need to be reworked a bit and you,ll find all kinds of new ideas with a bit of extra work!

Cool converts Tim. Looks like you've been pretty busy with house moves, cave creations and slicing 'n dicing. Now to get them all painted up.....

Simon he's been let loose in his man cave and we've seen nothing yet. Nice seeing you slicing and dicing again Tim.

…. The Lt. ............ Good attempt. I do, it with electrical soldering iron. And with blade, it stem. And then to paint, it. I like that people do custom and reconve. ................ :D... bByye, byye.

TIM,

Great ideas and conversions! My only suggestions are don't go crazy with pistols which weren't an infantry weapon for enlisted men and the sword is a righthanded weapon even though CTS molded several left-hand ones on the Mexican and Col. Travis. Try cutting the sword hilt off of that figure.

I really like the artillery conversions, you could cut off the tall infantry plumes.

Having enjoyed a very pleasant day with Fish along with modwall it was amazing to see only some of what his man cave consits of. Loading photos of our visit this AM turned out be a bummer when the photos turn out to be out of focus. Along with seing his conversion and only a portion of his metal collection it was fun watching both Tim and Mike sorting Tim's unbeliveable collection of vintage platic figures along with what currently availabe today as stated I was bummed out that the photos didn't come out.

I want to share with ya'll at this point a number of converter Zulu Warriors by Tim which have now joined The Lt.'s Land of The Zulus and thank him for them and for the great time we had and looking forward to my next visit to his man cave with plans of shooting loads of photos........The Lt.

Joe I had a great time yesterday with you and Mike! I,ll have to make you a few more zulu conversions in the future, those were just some quick chops.
Maybe I can get you to try a few of your own conversions?

Here are some pictures of the Russian conversions primed and ready for paint!

The primer really brings the conversions together. The artillery and wounded are very effective. Looking forward to see them painted.

Scott they really look good up front and personal and like you waiting to see them finished but hope Tim will not repeat what happen to him last time he went on a painting binge..........The Lt.

So many figures to paint, so little time. I want to start getting some painting done but I have no idea wich ones I want to start on first???? You saw the pile of primed and half painted I had on my desk! I don,t know where to start???? I have to get that yard work you saw done first. I did more work on the wall today but got wiped out quick moving rocks in this heat.

Well my friend... The journey of a thousand miles always begins with one step. Pick one and start painting.:)

I find these really impressive. It is amazing to me what you can do with these changes. One question has been bothering me about the plastic figures in general. One distraction from thier appearance is the bend in the swords, lances and rifles that many have. Is there no way to overcome or fix that?

Try the old hot/cold shock treatment! Run the figures bent riffles/swords ect. under very hot water, straighten them out and run under cold water right after you straighten them. They should now hold the new straight postion. This also works for converting figures also into new poses. Give it a try!

Tim, I feel your frustration.Theres always so much to do with be creative churning out figures. If all the rest of lifes little problems were so tiny!
Just get in there and do what you want to do, not what you think NEEDS to get done.Besides, we're waiting to see how they turn out!!!!!!!

Harold, this is all your fault for making so many cool looking figures all at once!:p Between all your casting and conversions of your plastics I,m on overload!:eek:And the figures are all your creations. I still haven,t finnished painting all those conversions of your french figures I,ve got sitting half painted!

I made up my mind and will paint the russian conversions first I just started on them today and I,m going to break them up into 3 groups of 9 so I can get some done. Then I think its back to the Prussian landwehr that I also started on.
I have a real bad habit of starting to many figures at once and don,t end up with any finnished figures! Just a ton of half painted figures that I lose interest in that get tucked away.:mad:
Painting burns me out fast. I have no idea how you painted so many of those tiny war game figures Harold??? and to have them come out looking so nice?

Tim, No It's all Conte's fault in my situation. I wouldnt be doing 54mm if I hadnt bought the Dday Sets some years ago. Those little 25mm metal guys seldom get touched anymore and honestly I dont know how I had the fortitude to paint so many of them.

Painters burnout is a problem all of us get .Slumps sometimes last me close to a year.I've been in a painting mode but I can feel the burn coming on.A lull of not doing anything and I'll start converting figures and moldmaking again-- I hope.

Tons of 1/2 finished stuf sounds familiar. Me too and every other guy I know that paints.Been pulling a few different things out here and there and finishing off one or 2 in the evening.Mostly dark ages and Ancients. But at least the pile gets a little smaller.

Just dont force yourself. You can't rush art and creativity. In the mode, thats when it's most fun and rewarding .
Press on , forward!

Like wise Harold Conte got be hooked on the Land of the Zulus and it would not surprise me to see you entering it at a later date with a selection of Zulu Warriors casting with a few 24th Foot thrown in. I got to get of my butt and into a painting mode and over the burnt out stage. I'd better cause if I don't I won't get to see any new Zulu conversion from Tim. Be well and as always looking forward to seeing what else you have headed our way.....The Lt.
